Lydgate Infant School is holding its summer festival on Saturday 27 June 2015, 1-4pm.

Crosspool Juniors FC is looking for current Y2s who are looking to join a football club.
They must be available Tuesday evenings for training and Sunday mornings for matches during the upcoming football season. Also, they must not be registered with any other club in the Sheffield & District Junior Football League.

Lydgate Junior School in Crosspool has launched a new website at www.lydgatejunior.co.uk.
The school is hoping to use it to better communicate with parents, carers and the local community.
The trustees at Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) have an update regarding plans to install a cycle track at the facility.
We have received some encouraging news about a possible grant for the
proposed cycling area and cycle track on the CDYST playing field.To recap briefly, we are proposing tarmacking a flat area, approximately 15m by 16m, to the left of the building, as seen from Coldwell Lane. We would also tarmac a cycling track which would run from the building down to the tennis courts, with a small turning area at the bottom. This would not interfere in any way with the football pitch.
To date people seem to be overwhelmingly in support of the project and welcome a safe, traffic free area where young people can learn to ride a bike and where older people can brush up their cycling skills.

A to let/for sale sign has gone up outside the former Motor World building on the Lydgate Lane/Manchester Road. Sandygate Road junction.
The brochure advertising the Crosspool property states that the shop is to let with or without the upper floor and the that the owners would be open to selling the whole premises.
In a recent Facebook post, residents were asked what sort of business they would like to replace Motor World. Ideas included a coffee shop, petrol station, wine bar, deli, hardware shop, micropub, another car spares shop, clothes shop, DIY store, solicitors office, charity shop and gym.
The Crosspool Motor World shop closed in March after going into administration.

Crosspool Tavern officially reopened its doors on Thursday night following a refurbishment.
Teams of contractors had been on site since Sunday night’s closure, completing structural changes, redecorating, laying new carpets and replacing soft furnishings. Staff returned at lunchtime on Thursday to set up the bar and restaurant ready for the 5pm public reopening.
Crosspool Forum Chairman Ian Hague was invited to officially open the Tavern after manager Julie Kelly had earlier put out a request to find a local hero to do the honours.
A large crowd gathered outside at 5pm to see the official cutting of the ribbon before exploring the new look Tavern for themselves.
The Crosspool Festival committee and Crosspool Forum are looking for ideas for which local causes should benefit from any money made from our annual community festival.
Last year, £500 was raised for Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia and £500 was raised for community facility CDYST.
In 2013, £1,300 was shared between Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre and the 36th Sheffield Scout Group based on Benty Lane.

A group of regulars at The Plough have started a campaign to protect the pub from any future attempts to close it or turn it into a convenience store.
The Plough is one of three remaining pubs in Crosspool and it is believed that a public house has stood on the site for around 400 years. The pub is famously located opposite Hallam FC’s Sandygate stadium, the oldest football ground in the world.
There’s currently speculation around what the future holds for the Sandygate Road pub. As a result, a group of drinkers are exploring whether it could be registered as a community asset to help protect it from any future developments.
They’ve launched an online change.org petition and a paper petition in the pub that you’re invited to sign. There’s also a Save the Plough Facebook community group which they’ll use to keep everyone up to date.
Concerns were also raised by Crosspool residents at the Open Meeting last Friday and a local councillor has promised to investigate how likely it is that The Plough will become a convenience store.
