Whirlow Hall Farm Trust wins Sports England fundingWhirlow Hall Farm Trust

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is extremely grateful to have been awarded £10,000 of funding from Sport England. The grant will support Whirlow, particularly in these difficult times, to ensure they can continue their work with vulnerable children and young people in South Yorkshire.Thank you sports england

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is an educational trust based in Sheffield. Their mission is to help youngsters make the most of their potential, regardless of their circumstances and challenges, in a learning environment that is based on a working farm.

Ben Davies, Chief Executive at Whirlow, is thrilled to have been awarded the funding: “This funding from Sports England has come at just the right time for Whirlow. Like so many other organisations, the COVID-19 crisis has put a huge strain on them financially. This funding will enable them to keep vital services running during the lockdown, and ensure they are here for South Yorkshire’s most vulnerable children and young people once it is safe to welcome them back to the farm.”

If you are, or you are aware of any friends and neighbours , self-isolating or simply struggling to cope with the current unprecedented situation, we have a team of unpaid volunteers registered to help.

We are a flexible resource waiting to adapt to and help as best we can with whatever circumstances may arise during the pandemic and in its aftermath.

At the moment we have a list of local shops that can help with the supply of food and certain other products by delivering to you. To prioritise those self-isolating or who just need some help, we have been working with – e.g. Greencross Chemist, Phil James Butchers, GT News, Spar/Post Office, and Tesco Express. Should demands on these services become stretched, we will step in to help with deliveries/collections.

We have DBS checked volunteers who will be happy to simply talk on the phone as we are becoming aware of people’s increasing sense of loneliness due to the current situation. And this may well be an increasingly important need over the coming months.

We are open to try and help whatever the problem. (Some of us are experienced dog-walkers if you are not able to leave home). Please feel free to ring us, even if you are not sure if we are the right people to help. We are happy to listen and try to meet whatever needs arise.

The office is staffed from 9am – 12noon, Monday – Saturday, but there is a 24-hour answerphone TEL: 01 14 267 0006

Help Create a Community Quilt

During the current lockdown, Amy Chambers would like to encourage you to stitch, draw, embroider, paint or stamp on a square of cotton or lightweight material, (15x15cms with a 1 cm border), to make anything that shows how you are feeling at this unusual time. The squares will then be sewn together to make a Community Quilt. Afterward, this piece of memorable history will be on public display in the community.

I’ve got a feeling we can make something beautiful between us!
Please share the idea with neighbours who may not be on social media, (obviously maintaining safe social distancing!!)
I’ve posted pictures below of ones we and Lydgate school have done so far.
Once you have done your square/s, Private Message Amy for further information.

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is chosen as a Co-op Local Community

Whirlow Coop

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is delighted to have been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, they’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Sheffield.

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is raising funds to support the costs of running their education programmes on their working farm. It costs over £1million each year to run their charity and provide educational visits for children and young people. They have specialist programmes to help children and young people with additional learning needs and/or struggling with their mental health. They work with primary and secondary age children as well as those over sixteen.Whirlow Lamb

Their mission is to ensure there is a place in education for every child.

To help them raise vital funds, they’ll be relying on Co-op members. When a member buys selected products or services from the Co-op they earn a 5% reward for themselves, with a further 1% for local causes like Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

The Co-op is looking to support organisations that make a difference in their local communities by protecting & improving community spaces, helping people reach their full potential by developing their skills or promoting health and well-being.

Co-op members can choose Whirlow Hall Farm Trust as their local cause by visiting membership.coop.co.uk/causes/34939. They really hope that people will visit the website and donate their 1% to the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

If you’re not a member and would like to support them, you can join at your local store or online
at www.coop.co.uk.

When a community comes together they’re able to achieve great things, so they hope you can help promote their project.
