Broomhill Temporary Changes to Roads and Foot-ways

Keeping people safe and socially distanced

To enable pedestrians to maintain the correct social distance between themselves and others, the council will be making temporary changes to the road and footway layout on Fulwood Road and Glossop Road in Broomhill. This will provide additional space on the pavement for pedestrians as they access local amenities.

The parking area outside Morrisions, Sainsbury’s etc will also be temporarily pedestrianised to allow more space for people to maintain social distancing. This means that the parking bays will be temporarily suspended. The area will remain open for two disabled parking bays, with the addition of two further disabled bays on Spooner Road and Taptonville Road.

Alternative parking is available very close by. This includes the car park above the shops/businesses on Fulwood Road (accessed via Spooner Road) and in Spooner Road Car Park.

The footways on Glossop Road, between Fulwood Road and Peel Street and between Peel Street and the end of the pavement opposite Westbourne Road, will be temporarily extended by 1.5metres to give additional footway space

Timescales

Monday 3 August – 2 new disabled bays will be marked out on Taptonville Road and Spooner Road. This will be operational by or before 8 August.

Sunday 9 August – Footpath widening on Glossop Road will commence. This will be operational by or before 16 August.

Monday 17 August – Parking bays on Fulwood Road will be closed. Fencing will be erected to prevent access to the work area. Access to the shops will be retained with no disruption.

Monday 24 August – Working arrangements will require access to the footway in front of the shops and there will be some disruption. Access arrangements will be worked up in more detail once on site.

Saturday 29 August – Works complete.
