A reminder that the 51 bus switches to its summer timetable today, which means a temporarily reduced service for the next few weeks.
The regular timetable for Crosspool’s main bus service will recommence in September 2011.
The Plough on Sandygate Road is no longer open for business – but should reopen before the end of the month.
The pub is one of several leased and operated by Hawk Inns North Limited. Glenn Thorpe, Director, said: “Due to administrative errors in all our Premises Licences we have had to temporarily close all the pubs operating within the Sheffield Licensing District.
“This is not a particular problem specific to The Plough as all our pubs will reopen with Temporary Event Notices on the 28 of July for periods of four days at a time and then will be fully open again from 11 August.”
A sign in window of the pub (pictured below) states that an alcohol licence was re-applied for on 15 July 2011.
Local Beaver Scouts will be celebrating their 25th year at a big event in Crosspool this September.
The 25th anniversary community fun day will take place on 10 September at CDYST on Coldwell Lane, the recent venue for Crosspool Fayre.
Expect a bouncy castle, stalls, games, ice cream, arts and crafts, a BBQ, nail bar, face painting, refreshments and a mini garden competition.
The fun runs from 1-3pm and entry is free.

The first exhibition of artists living in or strongly connected to Crosspool took place as part of this year’s Crosspool Festival. It brought together professionals and amateurs at the week-long show at St Columba’s Church.
The lovely light venue was excellent and the generosity of those who attended raised more than £220 for the Soup Run*. Those who didn’t come missed a treat! Judith Hanson
*The Soup Run distributes food to the homeless in town and is orgainised by St Columba’s and Stephen Hill churches
Tapton secondary school in Crosspool will break away from the council to become an academy on 1 August.
In the final vote, sixteen governors voted in for the move, one abstained and two more were unable to attend.
Tapton will have new status in time for 2011/12 school year (The Star)
Teams from the local fire brigade and police force were at Saturday’s Summer Fayre, talking to residents about the work they do and allowing children to explore their vehicles.
A tug-o’-war rope had been set up and after watching some the public enjoy a challenge for fun, officers from South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue agreed to take each other on.

Yesterday hundreds of Crosspool residents turned out in the sunshine for our annual Summer Fayre on the Coldwell Lane CDYST sports field.

This year’s Crosspool Festival is rounding off this weekend with two big community events.
From 2pm today on Coldwell Lane sports field (CDYST) the Summer Fayre takes place. There is loads going on, including live music, entertainment, dancing, a bouncy castle, side shows, games plus stalls selling crafts, flowers, food and drinks. It’ll be a great afternoon out for all the family.
And then tomorrow at 12.30pm why not head to Lydgate Green (the junction Lydgate Lane/Lydgate Hall Crescent) for Picnic in the Park? The four Crosspool/Sandygate churches host this event to mark the closing of the festival.
Enjoy music from the Chapeltown Silver Band and a brief talk from Ven. Martyn Snow, Archdeacon of Sheffield. Bring your rugs, picnics and children!
Tonight (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday morning) are your last chances to enjoy the free art exhibition in St Columba’s church on Manchester Road.
The show is open tonight until 7pm and has its final viewing slot 10am-1pm tomorrow. Works on display include those by local artists who live in the Crosspool area or are involved in the Crosspool community.
Entry is free and the organisers are collecting donations to the Soup Run. Many of the paintings are original works and are available to buy. 15% of sales is donated to the Soup Run.
You can also view entries to the Crosspool Festival programme competition. The prize winning cover designs are by Constanza Valdovinos, Lydgate Junior School (front) and Sahar-Lavendar Ali Ahmed, Lydgate Infant School (back).
