Last week the speed indication displays returned to Manchester Road.
As well as showing drivers how fast they are going, the signs display a happy face for vehicles travelling under the speed limit and a sad face for those exceeding it.
The idea is that they slow cars down by making drivers aware when they are driving at unsafe speeds. The speed limit for this stretch of road is 30mph.
Speed indication displays were installed in a similar locations on Manchester Road in July 2010 and January 2011.
Will you be voting in this election? If not, why not? At last month’s Crosspool Forum Open Meeting, opinion was divided on the idea of a publicly-elected police and crime commissioner.
One report this morning from a polling station in the area said that turnout so far seemed to be lower than for a general or local election.
Have you noticed the influx of waxwings in the area? This great photo from by Kim Redgrave shows a pair of them eating berries from rowan trees on Tapton playing field last weekend.
Sheffield Bird Study Group explained that Crosspool usually attracts waxwings due to the large amount of rowen berries on Manchester Road. Photographer Kim also suggested that the berries in Scandanavia may have failed because of weather so they’ve come further south this year.
The RSPB estimates on their website that the number of individual waxwing birds usually present in the UK between October and March could be as low as 100.
However, this ITV News report says that over 2,000 of the birds have arrived from Scandinavia this month.
