The trustees of Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust are asking people to stop parking in their Coldwell Lane car park unless you are genuinely using the CDYST facilities or already have an arrangement to park there – for example Claremont Hospital.
Some residents have been using the private CDYST car park during road resurfacing works, which has been causing problems for existing users.
The trustees have warned that it is extremely dangerous for the mothers and pre-school children to have to park on a public road to get to the hall.
Affected local streets include Hagg Hill, Coldwell Lane, Stephen Hill, Watt Lane and Back Lane. You can see these streets highlighted on the council’s interactive online map.

Meeting at St Columba’s with First to discuss the 51 bus
On Friday night over 60 residents gathered at St. Columba’s church to put their questions to representatives from First, provider of Crosspool’s 51 bus service.
Almost 30 questions were taken from the floor and answered by First’s commercial manager Adam Timewell and business manager John Eardley.
What is being done to improve the 51 bus route? Download the meeting minutes (PDF, 97KB)
Issues and comments that were covered include:
the impact of the tramline repairs and Charnock roadworks on the service
changes can be expected in September, including a full fleet of new double decker buses on the 51 route; exploring the possibility of splitting the route so buses from this end turn round at the markets then come back; improving punctuality with particular problems regarding accessibility on West Street (outbound);
concerns about the safety of passengers boarding the bus on Mappin Street
a named Route Manager for the 51 is to be introduced by the spring
attempts to solve the problem of bunching buses, which is acknowledged as a management rather than timetabling issue
whether other companies could also run buses on the route, like the 52 service
Adam and John have agreed to attend the next Crosspool Forum Open Meeting on 31 July to report back on their progress.
Discuss the 51 bus service with a representative from First
Are you dissatisfied with the 51 bus service? Come along to a public meeting in Crosspool to discuss the Crosspool/Lodge Moor service with a representative of First group later this month.
The meeting takes place on Friday 30 May at St Columba’s church and starts at 7pm.
First Bus Commercial Director Adam Timewell will be in attendance to address your concerns and answer questions about the service.
The meeting has been organised on behalf of the three Crookes councillors as one of their public meetings under the new local ward arrangements.
As of today, you will need to pay to park in Crosspool Taven car park.
It costs £1 for a maximum stay of two hours. You’ll receive a £1 refund when you place your first order in the pub.
A sign explains: “For the security and convenience of our customers, it is intended to operate this car park on a pay and display basis. This change is to improve the availability of car park spaces for customers.”
Roadworks in Broomhill caused major delays this morning
Roadworks and temporary traffic lights have caused major bottlenecks through Broomhill this morning.
Emergency work by Northern Powergrid is taking place to repair a cable fault outside On-A-Roll sandwich shop causing power loss to local businesses. Only one lane of traffic is able to pass through at a time.
Earlier today, the 51 bus was diverted in both directions, bypassing Weston Park and the university stops.
The map on roadworks.org shows progress with the repair, although there is no firm indication yet how long it will take.
Update 2pm: reports that Broomhill is now clear of the works and there are no longer any major hold ups.
The 51 bus route will change slightly from Sunday 26 January
The route that the 51 bus takes when travelling away from town will change later this month.
From Sunday 26 January, journeys from the city centre to Lodge Moor will go via West Street and Glossop Road, turning right onto Hanover Way and then onto Western Bank.
Journeys into the city centre will not change and will continue via Broad Lane and Mappin Street.

A broken down 51 bus caused minor delays to traffic in Crosspool shopping precinct this morning at around 11am.
The stationary 51 bus blocked Sandygate Road over the zebra crossing near Artisan restaurant, meaning there was only room for vehicles to pass in a single direction at any one time.
Police were on hand around to direct traffic around the bus until it was repaired later in the morning.
Residents watch a 51 pass the bus-themed well dressing outside Crosspool Tavern
Local residents gathered this evening in the midsummer wind and sun to celebrate the unveiling of Crosspool’s new well dressing.
Frances Eccleston dedicates Crosspool well dressing
Festival chair and St. Columba’s priest-in-charge Frances Eccleston led the short dedication outside Crosspool Tavern.
This year’s well dressing celebrates the centenary of the bus service through Crosspool. 1913 saw the introduction of the first omnibus to carry passengers in Sheffield. It linked the tram terminus at Broomhill to Lodge Moor and the countryside.
The old fashioned term ‘omnibus’ is derived from Latin and literally means for all, to everywhere. This was presumably because for the first time a public service vehicle could travel on any road and was not restricted by tram lines.
The well dressing was created by volunteers
Crosspool well dressing has been created by local volunteers and the materials provided by fund raising events and donations.
The dedication of the well dressing will be followed by a week of events in Crosspool celebrating the life of our community.
Thanks go to Valleyside Garden Centre and Ronaldo’s Hairdressing for their support in creating the well and Rivelin Valley Conservation Group Task Team for erecting the board.
Residents living in the vicinity of Tapton Hill Road and Tapton Bank have expressed their concerns about the recent increase in vehicles parking outside their properties, adding further congestion at school times.
Sheffield West Delivery Office has taken delivery of 26 new vehicles which now occupy their onsite car park, meaning the vehicles which previously parked there are now parking in the surrounding streets.
One resident has contacted the site manager to raise her concerns and other residents brought up the matter with local councillors at a recent Crosspool Forum open meeting.
Members of the Forum also met with management at the delivery office on Wednesday 1 May and the Post Office will be carrying out a feasibility study to look at options available to try and improve the onsite parking within the site.
