It’s our understanding that a decision has been taken to sell the Carver fields on Hagg Lane.
These fields have provided a healthy recreational facility for everyone for many years. If this proves to be the case, and the fields become a building site, this would be a significant loss to the community and to our heritage.
Construction begins on the Manchester Road Tesco Express
Residents living near the former petrol station on Manchester Road have received a letter sent on behalf of Tesco Express confirming that work on the convenience store is underway and will continue until June.
The letter states that planned work includes the decommissioning of the fuel storage tanks, demolition of the kiosk, the building of new foundations and a two-storey building, alterations to the footpath and access point to the shop and a new car park.
Working hours during construction will be 8am-6pm weekdays and 8am-1pm Saturdays.
Last year a planning application was submitted to add a two-storey side extension and alter the roof design to create three flats and extended retail space on the ground floor for a chemist.
The changes to the plans include:
the main ridges are changed to pointed apex form
the west gable is changed to matching coursed stonework where not completely obscured by the adjoining building garage construction
the front dormers have been reduced to align more closely with first floor windows below using thinner wall construction
the waste bin compound is now shown with stone pier and timber gate enclosure
refuge marking is provided to the side entrance to the show and additionally marking to the relocated first floor stair approach
You have until Wednesday 17 February 2016 to comment on application 15/04122/FUL on the council website.

Crosspool petrol station: to be demolished and replaced with a retail development?
An application to demolish Crosspool’s Jet petrol station and replace it with a retail development has been recommended for conditional approval by planning officers.
You can read the report (PDF, 2MB) on the council website. The relevant section is on page 208 of the PDF document, which is labelled page 228..
The report states: “The principle of the development is acceptable because small retail stores are acceptable in housing areas and the applicant has demonstrated that there would be no harm to the existing neighbourhood centre and that there are no better alternative sites.”
The committee is a public meeting so you can attend and make representations to the committee if you so wish. The meeting starts at 2pm and if you do want to speak you should arrive before 2pm and let the committee clerk know of your intention.
The developers of Moor View Farm have been granted planning permission to demolish the out buildings and to build five detached and two semi-detached houses on the site.
The farmhouse refurbishment is well on its way to completion and the out buildings have now been demolished. The builders are presently awaiting the outcome of water and mine survey before work on the properties can begin.
As part of the scheme, local organisations can apply for a share of £13,000 to help fund projects that benefit the community.
The planning applications for the project were:
14/02155/FUL for the building of houses on the lower part of the site
14/02232/FUL for the upper part of the site to replace the dilapidated barns with two dwellings
14/01368/FUL to add an extension to the existing farmhouse
Regarding the Moor View Farm planning application, Councillor Geoff Smith has raised some concerns with the planning department about the drives to the intended houses at the back, the underground springs and coal workings.
The owners of the Jet petrol station and Mace store are keen to sell and have had several enquiries about the site. We’re not expecting to get news on the convenience store planning application until September.
Planning applications are online for Moor View Farm
Planning application 14/02155/FUL for the building of houses on the lower part of the Moor View Farm site is now online and open for comments.
The more detailed plans show five houses, garages, 12 parking spaces and two drives for vehicle access from Manchester Road.
This application is being submitted alongside another scheme, 14/02232/FUL, for the upper part of the site to replace the dilapidated barns with two dwellings, which is also open for comment.
There is also an application 14/01368/FUL to add an extension to the existing farmhouse.
