Scarecrow competition at Crosspool Festival

A message from Rachel Suddrick, Sally Parkinson, Beckie Howe and Paula Stacy:

Dear families,

We would like to invite you to join in with the Crosspool Festival scarecrow competition.

The theme for the festival is ‘joy and happiness’ so we would like you as a family to make a scarecrow that represents something that makes your family happy and brings you joy. This might be a book or film character or a scarecrow playing a sport or taking part in a hobby.

All scarecrows need to be displayed on or in the front of your home, visible from the road. This might be in a window, a front garden or even on your door! You can make them as big or as small as you like!

They should be in place by 10am on Saturday 27 June and should remain in place throughout the festival. Each entry will be judged by local sculpture Noel Lockley at some point during the festival. Winners will be announced on Saturday 4 July at the festival Fayre.

If you would like to enter, please collect an entry form from Lounge@Crosspool and return it along with £3 by 12 June. All profits will be going to the two Lydgate Schools.

We hope you have great fun making your scarecrows together as a family and will enjoy spotting scarecrows around Crosspool during the festival week.

A list of roads on which we expect scarecrows to be displayed will be available to collect from Lounge@Crosspool from Saturday 27 July. If you have any further questions please call in at Lounge.

1st prize: Family pass to Magna
2nd prize: Tea and cake voucher for Lounge@Crosspool
3rd prize: Family craft tub

Wanted: your nominations for a cause for Crosspool Festival to support – deadline Tuesday 5 May

Last year, PACT was one of the supported charities

The Crosspool Festival committee and Crosspool Forum are looking for ideas for which local causes should benefit from any money made from our annual community festival.

Last year, £500 was raised for Parents’ Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia and £500 was raised for community facility CDYST.

In 2013, £1,300 was shared between Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre and the 36th Sheffield Scout Group based on Benty Lane.

If you have suggestions a local charity or community group that could benefit from funds raised from this year’s festival, please fill in the form below. The Crosspool Forum committee will go through the suggestions and make a decision on who should benefit from money raised.

Please make your nominations over the weekend, as the deadline is Tuesday 5 May.
