Crosspool Forum is inviting local residents to join in with the planting of 1,000 crocus and 3,000 daffodil bulbs.
The first planting session took place yesterday and the plan is to continue this coming Saturday, 9 October 2010.
If you can spare an hour and would like to join in then meet 10am at the junction of Delph House Road and Manchester Road.

If you can spare an hour and would like to come along, we’ll be meeting at 10am this Saturday, 2nd October, at the top of Hagg Lane, at its junction with Manchester Road.
The local Beaver group also has 1,000 crocuses of their own, which they are planning to plant in the shape of their emblem on the sloping verge which flanks the Manchester Road Pelican crossing’s tactile paved surface.

Following the success of September’s community skip, another is planned for Tuesday 26 October.
Local residents are being given the opportunity to use the skip, sited in the lay-by bordering the Hallam School playing fields on Redmires Road from 7am. It will be removed at 12:30pm sharp.
Please note, the skip is for household waste only. The following items will not be accepted:

Two new computing courses started last Friday at St Columba’s church hall on Manchester Road.
The 12-week IT National College Introduction to ICT course is for beginners with no knowledge or just a basic knowledge of computers. It starts at 9am each Friday and is followed by a more advanced course at 11:45am.
Students are asked to pay just £30 for a 12-week course, with concessions for those on benefits.
Advanced students wishing to gain experience using the internet are also given the option of attending a course at a Foxhill computer suite taking place on either Monday or Thursday mornings.

Below are some photos from Crosspool Farmer’s Market on Sunday 4 July 2010. The market took place on Selbourne Road and was part of this year’s festival celebrations.
There were stalls selling food, drinks, plants and crafts as well as dancing from local school children.
The market was in aid of Cairn Home, which also opened up its garden and served cream teas.
Twelve charities are to share the £3,300 raised from this year’s Crosspool Open Gardens on Saturday 3 July.
The annual event, which is co-ordinated by members of Stephen Hill Methodist Church, ran this year as part of the Crosspool Festival programme.
There were 15 gardens around the neighbourhood to explore, including allotments off Back Lane, two adjoining houses on Cairns Road and the Den Bank Close garden featuring a model railway.
One Manchester Road garden also accommodated an art sale, plus a book signing by local historian and author Judith Hanson. Plentiful supplies of tea and cake were also available at most of the gardens.
Open Gardens started as a fundraising event for the church’s development appeal but has now been extended to support charities nominated by the owner of each of the showcased gardens.
The Veolia recycling roadshow is outside Spar today (Friday 30 July 2010).
It is giving local residents a chance to answer questions and feed back comments regarding the recent changes to recycling and the introduction of blue boxes for households.

There are currently plenty of opportunities to get involved with various community events and activities in Crosspool:
The Soup Wagon runs by St Columba’s and Stephen Hill churches on Monday evenings between September and May at Eldon Street car park. It need more volunteers to distribute food to the homeless on a 4 to 6-week rota.

An enthusiastic helper/assistant leader wanted for Stephen Hill Junior Badminton club which meets from 6-7:30 pm on Thursdays at the church. The club is for 10-18 year olds. It would be lots of amusement for the right  person. If you are interested, contact Bob Townrow on 230 1098 and towniesrm@talktalk.net.
Don’t say there’s no such thing as a free lunch! Volunteers are required to go on the washing up rota (6 weekly) at Crosspool Luncheon Club held at Stephen Hill church. A free lunch is provided!
