RESURFACING WORK on sections of Manchester Road & Rivelin Valley Road

As part of the Streets Ahead highway works Amey will soon be resurfacing some sections of the following roads;

  • Manchester Road – Sheffield/Derbyshire boundary to Rivelin Valley Road.
  • Manchester Road – junction of Rivelin Valley Road to Hagg Lane.
  • Rivelin Valley Road – junction of Manchester Road to Holme Lane.

Manchester Road/Rivelin Valley Road – Rivelin Valley

Work is about to start on Manchester Road (from Sheffield/Derbyshire boundary to Rivelin Valley Road) and work on the remaining section of Manchester Road and Rivelin Valley Road will take place in early to mid-August. Work will take place between the hours of 8pm and 5am, Monday – Friday only.

The work has been scheduled to take place at night to minimise disruption in the area. Amey appreciate that any disruption can be frustrating and thank you for your understanding whilst these important works are completed.

Please note this work will be completed under a road closure, and there will be no on-street parking on the section of road that they are resurfacing during working hours. Vehicles left on-street may be towed away and you will need to pay a fee to have your vehicle released.

Temporary road signs will be displayed ten days before work starts confirming the dates and duration of works and parking restriction signs will be displayed five days before.

PARKING AND ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS
Access to properties on the roads being worked on may be limited during working hours. On-street parking will be as normal at other times. Please let the Amey on-site supervisor know if you need vehicle access to your property for urgent reasons. Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will be available at all times.
If you are away during the period in which the works are scheduled to take place, please avoid parking your car on the road. The work schedule is heavily dependent on the weather and can be affected by unforeseen circumstances, so it may be necessary to change the start date at short notice. To ensure that the programme is delivered to schedule, cars that are delaying the works will need to be towed away.

BUS SERVICE AND BIN COLLECTION CHANGES
Changes to your regular bus service or diversion routes will be publicised by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport (SYPTE). Please check your local bus stop or http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com for any route changes. You can also call Traveline on 01709 515151 or follow @TravelSYorks on Twitter.

If there are any changes to your bin collection days these will be communicated by Veolia at http://www.veolia.co.uk/sheffield or on Twitter @Recycle4Shef. Call 0114 273 4567 between 8am and 6pm for more information.

ROAD SAFETY

  • Be patient and take extra care during road works.
  • Make sure to allow extra time for your journey.
  • Stick to the designated diversion routes and always drive within the speed limit.

BOGUS CALLERS
If you are approached by someone claiming to be from Amey, the Council or connected to the Streets Ahead programme offering to resurface your drive please do not hand over any money. If possible take the callers details, including their vehicle registration number and Streets Ahead/Amey will inform the Police. All Streets Ahead and Amey employees carry identity cards. HOME OF FOOTBALL WILL BE LOST FOREVER

THE DEADLINE IS JULY 3RD.

As most of you will know, an application to demolish the Plough has been submitted to the planning committee. The application would see the Plough replaced by eight houses on the site, none of which would be affordable for many of the local people.

The Plough, Sandygate Road
The Plough, Sandygate Road

We are asking as many people as possible to object to this application in order to protect such a historic building as the Plough. The main reasons for objecting are: The Plough was listed as an Asset of Community Value in April 2018 which protects its status as a public house. This decision was based on widespread support from the community, individuals, families and local organisations such as Crosspool Forum.
The recent planning history of the site confirmed the value of the Plough to the local community.
In January 2017, the planning committee refused an application for change of use on the basis that the pub catered for a wide section of the local community.
The Plough has significant heritage value not only to the local area but to the city as a whole. It is a landmark building and is closely associated with the history of football in the city. The local authority should be looking to preserve such buildings and to promote them as part of its ‘home of football’ campaign.
The application to demolish the Plough does not provide any evidence to suggest that it is not viable as a public house. The developer states that no offers were received to lease the pub but this was because it was only offered for a completely unrealistic rent of £50,000 per annum. Average rents in our region are between £24,000 and £29,000.
Please make an objection as soon as you can, using the link below:

THE DEADLINE IS JULY 3RD.

OUR PLANET MATTERS

Our Planet Matters to the pupils at   Lydgate Junior School

As part of the Lydgate Junior School’s work as a Rights Respecting School, each year they launch a campaign to raise awareness about a particular issue.

In 2017 they campaigned to make the crossing outside their school safer and in 2018 they took part in the ‘Make Schools Safe’ campaign. This year, their campaign aims to reduce the use of single use plastic in their school, their homes, in the local community and in their city.

Although learning about this issue in their PSHE lessons and aiming to become a Plastic Clever School. they also felt the need to take action so that their campaign results in not only increased awareness of the issue but a change in the way their use (or preferably don’t use!) plastics to show their commitment to their campaign on Thursday May 23rd, the whole school carried posters and banners on an awareness raising march from their school on Shore Lane up Selborne Road through the Shopping precinct and back down Manchester Road.

In addition to the march, all the children across the whole school wrote letters to a wide variety of people asking for their support and urging them to consider their own use of plastics. To ensure their campaign has maximum impact, they are aiming to involve as many people as their can…..and this includes you! They would be grateful if you could find the time to read and respond to the letters enclosed from some of their children. It would mean the world to them if you could reply in some way to acknowledge their letters. Email: enquiries@lydgate-jun.sheffield.sch.uk

JUNE LITTER PICKERS OUT IN FORCE

sheffield litter pickersThe odd shower didn’t deter the twenty-five volunteer Crosspool community litter pickers, including a team from our local Spar, from recovering eighteen full bags of litter from our local streets.

Taking centre stage this month, the hero of the day was 5 years old Daniel, who with the help of his mom, managed to bag the most litter. A big Thanks to all this month’s helpers

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU!

Vegetable & bedding PLANT SALES

hagg
Back Lane Crosspool

On an allotment site not so far far away, the “Hagg Lane and District Gardeners’ Allotments Society” will be holding the first of their Annual Plant Sales this coming weekend at their allotment on Back Lane, between 9.30am and 2.30ish

After a roller coaster of a spring spent in the poly tunnel, seedlings and plants will be seeking new homes. As usual, an eclectic mix of vegetables and flowers will be available for purchase, and, if today’s email from “Dobies” is anything to go by, there should be plenty of bargains. (They will NOT be offering you 22 value beetroot plugs for £7.99 plus postage, tempting though it is!)
You, your friends & family and anyone else that visits at some point, either over the coming weekend, in two weeks’ or indeed at any time, will be made very welcome!
If you have the time to volunteer you will be especially welcome!
Always welcoming the opportunity to catch up with old friends, the kettle should be on until close of play, and if all goes to plan, with a few morsels of cake.
The society depends heavily on the goodwill of a small band of people, and you will appreciate that the Plant Sales are a vital source of income for them. Many of you will also be aware that this has taken a slightly more critical twist this year with the introduction of some unwanted air conditioning, thanks to a visiting pick axe the roof of the hut is no longer watertight, and morale has also taken a bit of a hit.
The Sales can be pretty hectic at times, so if you think that you would be interested in enjoying an hour or two setting up, from about 4.15pm Friday May 3rd (The erection of the gazebos always draws a crowd of flabbergasted onlookers), … Labelling, serving, selling, carrying and advising (yeah, really…) Saturday and Sunday May 4th, 5th and May 18th, 19th, from 8.15am until about 2pm., Just turn up or drop an email to:- hagglaneallotments@hotmail.co.uk
You can make a difference and it would be very much appreciated.
Donations of surplus veg seedlings, plants and cakes, will be welcome at any point during the weekends.
