The Lent discussion group at St Columba’s and Stephen Hill Methodist church this year is based on the film The King’s Speech.
The Finding a Voice group will consider themes of confidence and anxiety.
Watch the film at St Columba’s at 6pm on Sunday 15 February and choose from evening sessions (7.30pm) on Wednesdays from 25 February at St Columba’s, or daytime sessions (10.30am) on Thursdays from 26th February. All are welcome.
The newly laid surface of Watt Lane has been under cut by a leaking water main at the junction with Cairns Road, resulting in the appearance of a pot hole.
Amey have been informed and the pot hole has been fenced off.

Tonight’s Open Meeting has been cancelled due to concerns over snow, ice and the safety of people attending.
The new date for the meeting will be Thursday 12 February 2015 at St Columba’s church.
Adjustments to the midweek 51 bus service timetable came into operation today.
The revised timetables are part of operator First’s latest efforts to improve the reliability of the service.

On Sunday 8 February Aligarh restaurant chefs will be demonstrating how to cook Chicken Balti, Chana Masala and Pilau Rice at the Crosspool restaurant.
The session takes place 2-4pm and all guests will receive a three course meal, and a complimentary recipe card.
Tickets are £15 each – call the restaurant on 0114 266 6096 to book.
Meanwhile, St Columba’s popular Magnificent Meals for Men cookery course will be returning from Friday 30 January.
The cost for this is £50 for six sessions (£25 in case of financial difficulty), payable by cheque in advance.

Crosspool Forum’s next Open Meeting will take place on Thursday 29 January at St Columba’s church. It starts at 7pm.

Crosspool post office reopened its hatches earlier today following a two-week renovation.
The new-look counter has been rotated 90 degrees and extra floor space has been created at the back of the shop.
The whole Spar shop has been smartened up with new units and a new illuminated sign outside.
Andrew Fisher and his crew of volunteers worked tirelessly for an hour and half shredding Christmas trees this afternoon to raise funds for the Crosspool Forum.
Over 120 trees were left by residents outside Direct Travel, with quite a number being over 8ft tall.
Money raised will help provide hanging baskets and floral displays in the Crosspool precinct.
On behalf of all who have and will benefit from their kindness, a big big thank you to Andrew (Complete Tree Solutions) and to Paul at (Direct Travel) for the use of the car park.

Crosspool post office will close for two weeks from tomorrow, Monday 5 January.
The closure is so that the post office can be refurbished. It is due to reopen at 1pm on Friday 16 January.
