Amended proposals for the Pop-Up Shop on Lydgate Lane in Crosspool are now available for viewing and comment on the council planning website.

Last year a planning application was submitted to add a two-storey side extension and alter the roof design to create three flats and extended retail space on the ground floor for a chemist.

The changes to the plans include:

  • the main ridges are changed to pointed apex form
  • the west gable is changed to matching coursed stonework where not completely obscured by the adjoining building garage construction
  • the front dormers have been reduced to align more closely with first floor windows below using thinner wall construction
  • the waste bin compound is now shown with stone pier and timber gate enclosure
  • refuge marking is provided to the side entrance to the show and additionally marking to the relocated first floor stair approach

You have until Wednesday 17 February 2016 to comment on application 15/04122/FUL on the council website.

3 March decision for Crosspool petrol station convenience store proposal

Crosspool petrol station
Crosspool petrol station: to be demolished and replaced with a retail development?

An application to demolish Crosspool’s Jet petrol station and replace it with a retail development has been recommended for conditional approval by planning officers.

A decision will be made at the council planning committee meeting on Tuesday 3 March.

You can read the report (PDF, 2MB) on the council website. The relevant section is on page 208 of the PDF document, which is labelled page 228..

The report states: “The principle of the development is acceptable because small retail stores are acceptable in housing areas and the applicant has demonstrated that there would be no harm to the existing neighbourhood centre and that there are no better alternative sites.”

The committee is a public meeting so you can attend and make representations to the committee if you so wish. The meeting starts at 2pm and if you do want to speak you should arrive before 2pm and let the committee clerk know of your intention.

51 bus route could change as part of university improvements

51 bus
The 51 bus could be rerouted as part of the University of Sheffield’s Campus Masterplan

Proposed improvements to the University of Sheffield campus could see the city-bound 51 bus rerouted from Western Bank/Mappin Street to Glossop Road via Clarkson Street and Durham Road.

The change would allow for the pedestrianisation of part of Leavygreave Road and a possible one-way circulatory system to be put in place using Western Bank for outbound and Glossop Road for inbound traffic.

Other ideas that are part of the new proposals include installing pedestrian crossings on Western Bank and improving Mappin Street.

The University is asking for residents to feed back on the masterplan at upcoming events or using their online form.

Planning update: application to extend former coffee shop house withdrawn

Crosspool coffee shop
The former Crosspool coffee shop building

The planning application to extend the former coffee shop house located between Manchester Road and Lydgate Lane has been withdrawn.

Previously a public toilet, the building closed as a coffee shop in January 2011 and is currently a two-bedroom residential house. In April, plans were submitted to extend the house but it appears that these have now been withdrawn.

Regarding the Moor View Farm planning application, Councillor Geoff Smith has raised some concerns with the planning department about the drives to the intended houses at the back, the underground springs and coal workings.

The owners of the Jet petrol station and Mace store are keen to sell and have had several enquiries about the site. We’re not expecting to get news on the convenience store planning application until September.

Crosspool roads will not be gritted under new council proposals

Several roads in Crosspool are included in a list of streets that will no longer be gritted if new proposals come into force in October.

The Sheffield City Council winter road maintenance proposals affect 100 miles of road in the city and have come about due to cuts in funding from central government.

Affected local streets include Hagg Hill, Coldwell Lane, Stephen Hill, Watt Lane and Back Lane. You can see these streets highlighted on the council’s interactive online map.

For the full list of roads, download this PDF (660KB) and see the roads at the bottom marked ‘remove all’.

Residents are being invited to give their views on the proposals. You have until Friday 25 July 2014 to comment.

Convenience store development proposed for Crosspool Jet petrol station site

Crosspool petrol station
Crosspool petrol station: to be demolished and replaced with a retail development?

Crosspool’s Jet petrol station would be demolished and replaced with a retail development if a new planning application for the site is approved.

Application 14/01275/FUL would see the building of a double-storey A1-class retail unit with parking for ten cars. It would extend to 354 square meters gross internal area.

No occupier for the unit has been announced, but the application states that discussions with several parties are ongoing and that “it is anticipated that it will attract a general convenience store operator selling everyday items such as groceries, alcoholic and soft drinks, tobacco, and newspapers.”

Full details of the scheme are on the council website, including site plans and a detailed planning statement (PDF, 657KB).

You have until Monday 19 May  now extended to the 2nd June    to comment on the proposals.

This planning application follows the news last week that just up the road plans have been submitted for an extension to the former Crosspool Coffee Shop house.
