La Dolce Vita Italian restaurant in Crosspool has opened a new cafe.
It is open from 10am-4pm, Monday to Saturday for Italian coffees and hot drinks, light lunches, salads, pastries and homemade cakes.
The Sandygate Road cafe/restaurant is also currently running daytime deals on panini, pizza, cake and coffee.
A meeting is taking place in February to discuss the idea of starting a local Women’s Institute (WI).
If you’re interested then come along to The Sportsman pub on Thursday 9 February for a 7pm start. More information is available from Craft Angels – you can pop into the shop or call them on 0114 266 7339.
The Women’s Institute community organisation has existed since 1915 and has over 208,000 members across 7,000 WIs. It has experience a resurgence in recent years, with WIs such as the Seven Hills group in Sheffield being over subscribed.
If you haven’t already made a note in your diary then the dates for this year’s Crosspool Festival are 7-15 July 2012.

Sheffield council has outlined plans to build new homes on Lydgate Reservoir on Evelyn Road, Hadfield Service Reservoir in Crookes and Canterbury Crescent, Fulwood in order to meet government housing targets.
The Lydgate Reservoir land is located at the end of the Evelyn Road cul-de-sac. It is thought that once the reservoir has been decommissioned, Yorkshire Water will market the site after 2017 or 2022.
The council is asking for residents and businesses to comment on the potential new housing plans between 16 January and 27 February 2012.

One Evelyn Road resident, David Smithson, said: “If this pleasant and quiet dead end were to be the sole access to this site, the prospects of an unacceptable increase in traffic and the resultant noise pollution would have detrimental consequence on me and my neighbours’ health and wellbeing. 20 dwellings would probably mean 30 or more cars added to usage of the road.”
The sites are three of 18 in Sheffield earmarked as part of a strategy to build 1,110 new homes.
St. Columba’s church is marking Poverty and Homelessness Action Week with a special service this Sunday 22 January at 10am.
The speaker will be Dr. Rob Furbey of the Sheffield Church Action on Poverty group.

The section of Glossop Road around King Edward VII school reopened on Monday morning art 7.30pm.
A stretch of the road was closed in November for emergency repairs following the collapse of a wall next to the school.
Councillors have granted permission for a new three-bedroomed townhouse in the garden of a property on Headland Drive.
The application received 14 comments from neighbours.

On Saturday afternoon police attended the ATM machine located outside Spar in Crosspool precinct.
Once again someone had reported that they had had a problem with the machine and that money had been removed from their account. The police rang the owners, Bank Machines, to report the problem. Bank Machines told the police that they are not able to send an engineer until midweek.
An ‘out of order’ sign has been placed on the machine.
Problems were previously reported with the machine back in October and again in December.
Ranmoor Badminton Club is keen to help people get back into shape after Christmas indulgence.
If you’ve played badminton before and are over 16 years old then you’re invited to join them to play mixed doubles at Tapton School on Friday nights.
The club runs from 7-10pm each Friday, and starts again for the new year tomorrow night (Friday 6 January).
