Cancellation Reminder

A Reminder that this evenings Crosspool Forum Open Meeting in St Columba’s Church, is Cancelled.

As we’re sure you’re already aware, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has meant that it’s now, more than ever, vital to limit social contact and avoid gatherings.
For that reason and to help keep everyone safe, the difficult decision was made to cancel this evening’s Open Meeting.
While we know this is disappointing, we hope you can understand our reasoning for making this decision.

If restrictions allow, it’s very much hope that the next Open Meeting will go ahead in St Columba’s Church at 7pm, on Thursday 28th January, 2021.

To find out more about the virus and how you can do your bit, visit the NHS Website.

Garden Waste Alert

Garden Waste (green bin) Service Suspended

Due to the impact of the Coronavirus on staffing levels, all green bin (garden waste) collections have been suspended until further notice.

Residents are advised to keep their green bin on their property (not on the pavement) and where possible, store their garden waste at home until collections restart.

Once the full impact of the Coronavirus on the green bin service is known, customers will be informed of arrangements to rectify any collections missed.

Black bin and recycling collections are operating as normal.

HWRC Opening Times

Opening hours of Sheffield’s five “Household Waste Recycling Centres,” will continue to be, 9am to 5pm, 7 days a week.

In order to ensure the safety of staff and the public during the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing measures continue to be in place, limiting the number of vehicles allowed on site at any one time.  The demand for the sites combined with the vehicle limits has resulted in significant queues. By continuing to remain open 7 days a week, allows more people to visit and should reduce queuing times.

It’s That Time of Year Again

As we approach the time of year when the dark nights are drawing-in and the darker evenings take hold, a home in darkness could be an invitation to a burglar. To help deter thieves the police are urging residents to ensure they have home security measures in place.

There are lots of simple and inexpensive things you can do. Make sure you keep windows and doors locked and leave lights on when you are out. As a further deterrent to burglars and thieves, perhaps using a light timer or Dusk to Dawn LED Bulb with a sensor could help.

The police have said that they will be stepping up evening patrols and Neighbourhood officers will be speaking to businesses and residents to offer additional advice about how to ensure premises and property are kept secure.

If you see any suspicious behaviour, the police would urge you to contact them immediately on 101 or 999 in an emergency. Don’t leave it a few days; ringing them as soon as possible will give the police the greatest chance of preventing a crime taking place and making an arrest.

For further burglary prevention advice, please speak to your local neighbourhood policing team:- 0114 2964898.  PCSO’s:- Pam Thompson 07584 617 210 – Phil Whitaker:- 07787 882 106 -Nicola Doolan –Hamer:- 07787 881 996 Alternatively, you can find more help and tips on their website: South Yorkshire Police

Clocks go Back this Sunday

At 2am this Sunday 25th October British Summer Time (BST) comes to an end, the clocks go back an hour to 1am, and we go back to observing Greenwich Mean Time.

Local COVID Alert Level

From 24 October this area will be in Local COVID Alert Level: Very High.

What are the restrictions?

  • People must not meet socially with friends and family indoors in any setting unless they are part of your household or support bubble*. This includes private homes and indoors in hospitality venues, such as pubs. You also must not meet with people outside of your household or support bubble in a private garden or in most outdoor public venues.
(*A support bubble is where a household with one adult joins with another household. Households in that support bubble can still visit each other, stay overnight, and visit public places together.)
  • People must not socialise in a group of more than 6 in an outdoor public space such as a park or beach, the countryside, a public garden or a sports venue. Venues following COVID-secure guidance can host more people in total, but no one must mix indoors or in most public outdoor venues with anyone who they do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with). This includes in pubs and restaurants, shops, leisure and entertainment venues and places of worship.
  • Pubs and bars will close and will only remain open where they operate as if they were a restaurant – which means serving substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal. They will only be able to serve alcohol as part of such a meal. Certain businesses selling food or drink on their premises are required to close between 10pm and 5am. Businesses and venues selling food for consumption off the premises can continue to do so after 10pm as long as this is through delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-thru.
  • People should try to avoid travelling outside the ‘Very High’ alert level or entering a ‘Very High’ alert level area, other than for work, education or for caring responsibilities or to travel through as part of a longer journey. If people need to travel they are encouraged to walk or cycle where possible, or to plan ahead and avoid busy times and routes on public transport, to allow for social distancing.
  • Face masks must be worn on all public transport and not car share with someone from outside your household or your support bubble unless you can practise social distancing. If people need to use public transport, you should follow the safer travel guidance. This includes the rules on wearing face masks and advice on car sharing.
  • People should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK, and others should avoid staying overnight in the ‘Very High’ alert area.
  • Visits should not be made to a care home except in exceptional circumstances, for example to visit someone who is at the end of their life.

In addition, the following restrictions will also apply in South Yorkshire:

  • Additional closures will include: Betting shops, adult gaming centres, casinos and soft play centres.
  • Gym classes will not be allowed (but gyms will remain open).

Poppy Appeal Kicks Off

Poppy Appeal kicks off this Thursday and runs until Wednesday November 11th.

To safeguard Royal British Legion staff, volunteers and members of the public during the current pandemic restrictions, this year their devoted community volunteer Poppy Appeal street collections have had to be curtailed.

In the unprecedented challenges that COVID-19 poses, the Royal British Legion local organisers face difficulties raising funds from this year’s Poppy Appeal.

To help you, your neighbours, family and friends, get hold of a poppy and contribute to the appeal, the Spar, GT News and Pet Supplies in the Crosspool precinct have generously agreed to support the appeal and from mid-day tomorrow, Thursday 22nd, will have a supply of poppies.
