City Centre Consultation

Tell the council what you think about their travel plans

The more people involved, the better the needs of the whole community will be reflected.

Connecting Sheffield: City Centre focuses on your journey into and around the city centre. Travel is changing and the council need to prepare for the future by offering the right infrastructure for walking, cycling and public transport. The council have launched their consultation on the plans and would like to know what you think. 

The proposed changes to the city centre will;

  • make it easier and safer to get around on foot and by cycling
  • prioritise public transport routes into and across the city centre
  • create high quality ‘green streets’ and more pedestrianised areas to improve the environment.

Your Garden Waste

Green Bin – final collection in the Crosspool area – Tuesday 1st December.

To ensure your green bin is emptied prior to next years’ service, please put your Green Bin out by 7am this Tuesday.

Carols in Crosspool

Joy Newbould, who works at the Charisma shop in Crosspool, has organised a Brass Quartet to play Christmas carols around the Crosspool shops, on Saturday 5th December.

Observing social distancing at all times, Joy and her co-musicians would love you to take this opportunity to enjoy listening to your favourite Christmas Carols with them.  

Having not been permitted  to fulfil any engagements this year, they are so excited to have this opportunity to play once again after the lockdown and are looking forward to bringing a bit of cheer to all you lovely people, who, by shopping locally, help keep Crosspool vibrant and inviting. If you would like a particular carol played please don’t hesitate to approach Joy with your request!

To raise money to keep their respective bands afloat (Carlton, Frickley, Hepworth, GUS, Old Silkstone & Bandafloat), on Sunday 6th December, for a donation towards the running costs of these registered charities, they would be happy to play locally your chosen carols for a 20min session outside anyone’s house or in the garden.

Joy promises you that the tempo will be cheerful and the standard high!

Broomhill Community Library

are still open for Orders and Collections in Lockdown, Tuesdays 10.00am to 1.00pm, Wednesdays 1.30 to 4.30pm & Saturdays 10.00am to 1.00pm. You can also take in any of Sheffield Libraries books plus any books to donate for sale. BLS are still collecting food items for Sheffield’s food banks

The loan period is back to three weeks and the exemption of fines for late returns has been extended until the 31st Dec 2020, (but not for lost or damaged books).

BLS request that you wear a mask and observe social distancing when visiting the library.

BLS online reservations system is up and running again. You can request five books plus two DVDs and two music CDs, via Click & Collect from the Sheffield Libraries websites.

You will be contacted by the library of your choice when they are available for collection.

If you have difficulty using a computer, please don’t hesitate to give BLS a call on 0114 2734276 or collect a paper request form from them and they’ll be pleased to search for books for you.

Every Poppy Counts

Every year the nation unites to make sure that no-one is forgotten and to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.

Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and in light of the risks posed; to protect the health and well-being of everyone, a decision was taken for individual church representatives to lay a commemorative wreath at the newly erected Crosspool Community Memorial of Remembrance in the Tapton Congregational Church garden. (You are invited to visit the memorial in your own time).

Recognising that this will be deeply disappointing for all who are unable to join the congregation in a Service of Remembrance, The Rev. Suzanne Nockels has prepared this short but poignant video of a service for us all to watch as we remember those whose lives have been touched by conflict.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

CROSSPOOL COMMUNITY LITTER PICK

Due to the ongoing lockdown restrictions on mass gatherings and social distancing, tomorrows and subsequent monthly Crosspool community litter picks will not take place until legislation allows.

Stay Safe

Guy Fawkes Night, Guy Fawkes Day, Fireworks Night, whatever you call it, Bonfire night will be different this year, so it’s important to have fun responsibly and follow the National Corvid19 restrictions.

As good as South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue crews are – and they really are good – they can’t be in two places at once, so if you are having a bonfire please be extra careful, as they need to keep crews available for real emergencies.

Less We Forget

Although we can’t gather around the new Crosspool community memorial in the Tapton Church garden for an inaugural service of Remembrance this Sunday ` for those whose life has been touched by conflict’, you are invited to take a short walk to the memorial in your own time.

The Rev. Suzanne Nockels has prepared a prayer that people can use as they see fit and will be doing a video of a short service next to the memorial which will be aired on the ‘Sheffield Congregational Churches‘ Facebook and on their website: taptonchurch.com, at 10.45am, Wednesday November 11th.

Halloween Night with a Difference

Halloween in Crosspool was a much more muted affair this year.

Due to harsh Tier 3 social distancing regulations, all the most popular activities for children at this time of year, trick-or-treating, parties, nights out and events that see pumpkins and skeletons popping up in Crosspool, had to be scaled back this year.

Determined that children could still celebrate and enjoy the spirit of trick or treat night, local residents went the extra mile with their spectacular ghostly, creepy and supernatural displays. Following social distancing, children and grownups were able to appreciate and delight in these many spooky creations as they made their way along the “Lydgate Juniors Pumpkin Trail.”…
