Crookes ward local election candidates confirmed

The six Crookes ward candidates standing in the 22 May election have been revealed:

European Elections will also be taking place on the same day. For these, you vote for a political party to represent your views in the European Parliament, not an individual candidate.

So on the day you will be able to vote for one ward candidate and one European political party.

If you haven’t registered to vote then you still have time to do so before 6 May.

Crosspool residents vote in police and crime commissioner election

Crosspool residents are casting their votes today to choose a police and crime commissioner (PCC) for South Yorkshire.

The candidates are:

  • David Allen – English Democrats
  • Jonathan Arnott – UKIP
  • Nigel Bonson – Conservative
  • Robert Teal – Liberal Democrat
  • Shaun Wright – Labour

Will you be voting in this election? If not, why not? At last month’s Crosspool Forum Open Meeting, opinion was divided on the idea of a publicly-elected police and crime commissioner.

One report this morning from a polling station in the area said that turnout so far seemed to be lower than for a general or local election.

Liberal Democrats hold Crookes seat in 2012 local election

Liberal Democrat Rob Frost has been elected as a councillor for Crookes in the 2012 local elections.

The results were as follows:

Rob Frost, Liberal Democrat – 1,965
Abdul Khayum, Labour Party – 1,416
Amy Mack, Green Party – 808
John Hesketh, Independent – 736
James Hoyes, Conservative – 360
Alec Hayward, UKIP – 323

There were a total of 5,608 votes from an electorate of 13,966 in Crookes, which gives a turnout in our ward of 40%.

Overall in Sheffield, the Labour gained nine seats and the Liberal Democrats lost nine. So Labour remain in overall control of Sheffield City Council.

The result for mayoral referendum will be announced later today.

Crosspool residents vote in local election and mayoral referendum

Crosspudlians will be casting their votes today to choose a new local councillor for the Crookes ward and decide whether or not Sheffield council should switch to a system that would see it led by an elected mayor.

There are 28 seats up for election, which is one third of Sheffield City Council. In the Crookes ward there are six candidates standing:

Crookes ward: local elections and mayoral referendum on Thursday 3 May

Local residents will be voting in the local council elections and mayoral referendum on Thursday 3 May.

There are 28 seats up for election, which is one third of Sheffield City Council. Crosspool lies in the Crookes ward, where there are six candidates standing:

If any of these candidates read this, it would be great if they could comment below to sum up why Crosspool residents should vote for them.

Voters will also be deciding they would like the council to be run, either by a leader who is an elected councillor chosen by a vote of the other elected councillors (how the council is run now) or by a mayor who is elected by voters.

Crookes local election result: Labour win seat back from Lib Dems

Labour’s Geoff Smith has taken the Crookes ward seat from the Liberal Democrat John Hesketh.

Geoff collected 2,916 votes, while John received 2,397. Green Party candidate Julian Crossland came third with 1,174 votes and Conservative candidate John Levick took just 874 votes. The turnout for Crookes ward was 52.8%.

Overall in the city, Labour now has 49 councillors out of a total of 84, taking nine seats from the Liberal Democrats who have 32.

Local elections and AV vote in Crosspool this Thursday

Local residents will be voting in the local council elections and Alternative Vote referendum on Thursday.

For the local elections Crosspool lies in the Crookes ward, where there are four candidates standing:

The electorate will also be deciding whether to vote for or against a change from First Past The Post to the Alternative Vote polling system for future general elections.

Some residents will be moving polling station from Stephen Hill church on Benty Lane to Hallam FC’s ground on Sandygate Road.

Full details of where you should vote will be printed on your polling card. If you haven’t received your polling card by the election date you can still vote in person at your local polling station. You will need to take some form of ID with you.

Polling station changes for local elections and referendum in May

Sheffield City Council’s Returning Office is communicating with the Crosspool electorate to advise of changes to polling stations for the 2011 local elections and referendum.

Some residents will be moving polling station from Stephen Hill church on Benty Lane to Hallam FC’s ground on Sandygate Road.

The communication reads:

Following the general election in 2010 the Returning Officer held a review which recommended increasing the number of poling stations. In addition some established polling stations are unavailable for this May’s elections.

Full details of where you should vote will be printed on your polling card. The deadline for registering to vote is Thursday 14 April.
