Crosspool Forum’s next Open Meeting will take place on Friday 25 April at St Columba’s church.

Light refreshments will be served from 6.30pm, with the main meeting starting at 7pm.

As well as a guest speaker, local councillors and the police will be on hand to listen to your concerns.

There will be an update on local Neighbourhood Watch schemes and Pam Walton from Pedal Ready will be encouraging us to get on our bikes.

A locksmith will also attend to give demonstrations and advice on keeping you and your property safe with secure locks.

Update 25 April, 6.30pm: Deputy prime minister and Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg is confirmed as the guest speaker.

St Columba’s to host Carver Fields bonfire for Easter 2014

St. Columba’s church will be celebrating Easter morning, Sunday 20 April, with a bonfire and service held on Carver Fields at 9am.

The short service will be followed by breakfast, Easter egg hunt and celebration service in church.

To join St Columba’s for the bonfire, take the footpath off Hagg Lane opposite the junction with Den Bank Drive and walk across the field.

Sound of Music sing-a-long in aid of S6 food bank this Saturday

To raise awareness and donations for the Sheffield S6 Trussell Trust Foodbank, Crookes Community Singers are hosting a screening of the classic film Sound of Music – complete with sing-a-long subtitles so the audience can all join in.

There’s no admission fee – but everyone is asked to bring a suitable donation to the food bank. The event takes place on Saturday 5 April 2014 at St Thomas’ Church in Crookes. Doors open 1.45pm for 2pm start.

There’ll also be an optional fancy dress competition with prizes awarded for best adult and child (no political dress admitted.)

Come along and give your concerns on local issues to local councillors, the police and officials.

Guest speakers this time include:

  • Andrew Wood who will be advising on energy-saving measures for your home, including insulation
  • Amanda Forrest and Dr. Ted Turner from the Clinical Commissioning Group who will give a brief outline of the CCG’s patient and public involvement etc. followed by a short question and answer session

Cooking course for men at St Columba’s

A new six-week course that will teach men how to cook a tasty, healthy meal using fresh ingredients is starting next month in Crosspool.

Men’s Magnificent Meals takes place at St. Columba’s Church Hall on Fridays from 28 February 2014. Sessions are taught by an experienced and qualified tutor and run from 10.30am-12.30pm. No previous cooking experience is necessary.

The course costs £42/£21 (you choose what you pay). Pre booking is essential: ring Kate in the St Columba’s Parish Office on 0114 267 0006 or email st.columbas@hotmail.co.uk.

A similar course which ran in 2013 was a success.

Church services and carols this Christmas in Crosspool

The four local Crosspool churches have announced their programme of services for the Christmas season.

AngelHighlights include St Columba’s Community Angel Festival on 21-22 December, where local community groups are putting their best creative heads together to decorate large willow angel sculptures to be displayed in the church over the weekend. There’s still a few left if your community group would like to decorate one – contact Diane Ryan at st.columbas@hotmail.co.uk. You can see the angels at St Columba’s on Saturday 21 between 10am and noon, or on Sunday 22 between 2pm and 4pm.

In addition to the church services there will be carols, mince pies and mulled wine at Hallam FC’s Sandygate Road stadium on Thursday 19 December in the 1860 Suite. Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start.

Tickets on sale for 2013 Childrens’ Christmas Disco

Crosspool Forum is hosting a Childrens’ Christmas Disco on Sunday 15 December, 2013.

The event is for younger members of the Crosspool community and will run from 1.30-3.30pm in St Columba’s church hall. Father Christmas will bring a present for every child! Complementary refreshments and nibbles will be served.
