Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
You can come and make a kite to fly on the Sports fields opposite, create slime or fidget spinners and decorate our Church doors with crowns.
Suitable for any age 5+ but all children must come accompanied by an adult.
June 5th is a massive part of a celebration weekend. It’s the Queen’s Jubilee plus Pentecost/Whitsun.
Tapton Church (Tapton Hill Road /Manchester Road) is having an afternoon full of activities.
Try out the kite you’ve made earlier or bring your own, unless the weather is wet.

Service of Thanksgiving and celebration in St Columba’s Church for those who died during the pandemic restrictions
St Columba’s Church is holding a service at 2.30pm this Sunday 15th May to celebrate and give thanks for those who died during the pandemic, and in particular for those who felt the restrictions meant they could not properly mark the death of a loved one.
We anticipate this will be the first of a few occasions when we do this, so there will be other opportunities for those who cannot make this particular time, but all are welcome. If you wish to attend specifically to pay tribute to your relative, please let us know the relevant name so they can be mentioned and prayed for. The invitation is to all members of the church and the wider community.

In this, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year don’t miss the chance to showcase your creativity. Enter the Crosspool Festival Art, Craft, Photography, Cake Baking, and Cup Cake Decorating Competitions.
Anyone who lives works, or goes to school in the Crosspool area can enter, All exhibited creations will have the chance of winning a prize, sponsored by the Crosspool Estate Agent Cocker & Carr.
There is no theme to follow, just show us what you can create. You can enter as many of the categories as you want, but no more than two entries per category.
All competition entries will be displayed and judged at St Columba’s Church on Wednesday 29th June, after which some of the entries in the art, craft, and photography categories will go to be displayed in Cocker & Carr’s window.
How to enter:
Cup Cake Decorating
Under-fives & five to eleven years can enter a maximum of two cupcakes. They don’t have to make the cupcakes, just decorate them using their imagination.
Cake baking
Under 16s & everyone over 16 years; you can submit up to two cakes that you have made.
Hand both cupcakes & cakes in with a card that gives details of Name, Age, an email address, and phone number (that of parents or guardians for children) at St Columba’s Church on Tuesday 28th June, 6 -7 pm or Wednesday 29th June, 9-10 am
Art and Craft Creations
Under 16s & everyone over 16 years. you can submit up to two creations that you have made.
Photography
Under 16s & everyone over 16 years: you can submit a maximum of two images in either A5 or A4. On the back print, a caption so the judges can clearly understand your description of what is happening in the photo, Name; Age; Category, and your contact email and phone number.
Drop off your entries at the Crosspool Estate Agents Cocker & Carr, from Wednesday, June 1st. The closing date is midday on Friday 24th June.

St. Columba’s Church hosted a mop-up Covid vaccination clinic for the Children’s Hospital on Monday 14th February and another for the Primary Care Network on the morning of Wednesday 16th.
NHS England are funding necessary renovations to the wood block flooring in both the worship area and the hall, which have been severely affected during the year’s vaccination programme, partly due to the substantial footfall (over 50,000 vaccinations have been given on site), but mainly due to the requirement to sanitise all the wood flooring using chlorine solution after every day’s clinic (just short of 100 days). In terms of cost, it is worth pointing out that the renovation cost added to the total charges made by the church to the NHS for a year’s exclusive use of the site, still come to less than the Arena were charging for one month’s hire for the vaccination programme (this is not to knock the Arena which works on a commercial and larger scale than they do, but to put things in context).
However, the worship area is also in need of re-decoration, which the Church has budgeted for, and this must be done prior to the floor repairs as it entails the use of tower scaffolding on the floor.
Work starts on 22nd February, and they expect all to be finished by the end of March. All groups who use the church have been kept informed, and most are anxious to return after Easter, whilst the leadership team will discuss how they harmonise Sunday services and church activities when they again have two fully operational church sites.
Having developed such good relations with both the community and the medical team in 2021, they will continue to offer occasional use for clinics in the future, and are able to do so as the requirements for sanitising, particularly of the flooring, have been relaxed, so further damage can be avoided. They also intend to have a service of thanksgiving where they invite community volunteers and medical staff to join them and are looking at other ways to build on links made during the last two years.
Steve Ellis (St. Columba) said, “it has been a privilege to work with all in the community and the medical teams whose commitment and dedication has been inspiring. The church community as a whole need especial thanks, not just those directly involved in the practicalities of supporting both the vaccines and the Community Volunteer Hub, for their positive support, encouragement and prayer during the pandemic”.
The Loxley Silver Band will be playing Traditional and Local Christmas Carols at the Tapton Hill Congregational Church, Manchester Road, on Sunday 12th December at 2.45pm.

Crosspool Forum Open Meeting, Stephen Hill Church, Wednesday 27th October 7pm
As things are slowly getting back to some sort of normality post-pandemic, the Crosspool Forum are pleased to announce that by following present covid guidelines, it is relatively safe to start holding their Open Meetings once again.
With their usual venue (St Columba Church) being presently used for community vaccinations, the Crosspool Forum were kindly offered the nearby Stephen Hill Church , Crosspool, S10 5PL to hold their forthcoming Open Meeting, Wednesday 27th October 7pm. (Unfortunately the Stephen Hill Church is occupied by another group on Thursday, hence the reason for the change from the day previously advertised).
Local councillors and the police will be on hand to listen to your concerns on local issues, and a guest speaker to give a brief update on the vaccination programme at St Columba.
An open invitation and a warm welcome is extended to all residents, and people who empathise with Crosspool, to attend this and all Crosspool Forum Open Meetings.
