The trustees of Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) on Coldwell Lane have asked us to pass on that news the children’s playground is out of use for a few days.

This is because the old safety tiles are being replaced by modern wet-pour safety surfacing – plus there’ll be a new spring ride!

The improvements should be all completed by the end of next week.

A message from Gillian Drinkwater, Secretary and Trustee of Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST):

CDYST wishes to thank the Henry Boot Community First Endowment Fund for South Yorkshire for its generous grant in December 2015.

This has allowed the trustees to buy more orange barrier netting, new shepherd’s crook fencing pins and some keep off the grass signs. These are used every spring when we close the Coldwell Lane under 11s pitches for essential summer maintenance – the expensive hollow-tining, reseeding, weedkiller spraying and fertilizer spreading – and our old materials were getting very shabby.

The grant was obtained with the kind assistance of the South Yorkshire Community Foundation.

CDYST trustees ask visitors to be vigilant

Trustees at Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) have noticed that twice in the last month someone has tried to gain access to the mower storage shed around the back by pulling off the door handle and trying to wedge something in to break open the lock.

They’re asking anyone passing to keep an eye on the Coldwell Lane property – especially round the back – and report anything suspicious by calling 101 or contacting the trustees.

CDYST cycle track plans halted

The trustees at Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) have decided not to go ahead with plans for a cycle track on the site.

They explain:

For numerous reasons and after careful consideration of all the issues involved, the CDTST trustees have decided that unfortunately it is not feasible for the proposed cycle track to go ahead.

The research that we have done and the negotiations that we have had has lead us to believe that the work is untenable.

We thank everyone who took the time to respond with their comments about the intended project.

Summer Fayre success

Summer Fayre 2015
Summer Fayre 2015

Following the torrential thunderstorm in the early hours, it was a murky start to 4 July.

As the low cloud and fine drizzle slowly cleared  throughout the morning, the CDYST sports field & hall on Coldwell Lane were gradually transformed, by an army of volunteers, into the setting for the Crosspool Forum Summer Fayre.

The  event was officially opened  by a lifelong Crosspool lady Faye Buxton, who earlier this year had moved from Sheffield to be nearer her family.

As  visitors arrived to enjoy the attractions, stalls and entertainment by local Irish dancers, the Yorkshire Chandelier Clog dancers,  Richard Francis Duo and the children’s favourite comedian/magician Barney Baloney, the sun broke through and shone for the whole afternoon.

A truly enjoyable day was had by everyone.

The organisers of the Fayre would like to thank everyone for attending the event and especially the team of dedicated volunteers who helped make the whole event possible.

See you all again next year.

Update on CDYST cycle track

CDYST facilities in Crosspool

The trustees at Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) have an update regarding plans to install a cycle track at the facility.

We have received some encouraging news about a possible grant for the
proposed cycling area and cycle track on the CDYST playing field.

To recap briefly, we are proposing tarmacking a flat area, approximately 15m by 16m, to the left of the building, as seen from Coldwell Lane. We would also tarmac a cycling track which would run from the building down to the tennis courts, with a small turning area at the bottom. This would not interfere in any way with the football pitch.

To date people seem to be overwhelmingly in support of the project and welcome a safe, traffic free area where young people can learn to ride a bike and where older people can brush up their cycling skills.

If there is anything you wish the trustees to consider before the plans are finalised, please email akpemberton@hotmail.com by Tuesday 19 May 2015.

The trustees of Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) on Coldwell Lane are asking for your old inkjet and laserjet printer ink cartridges and mobile phones to help raise money and to be more environmentally friendly.

CDYST is working with partners AquAid, Perfect Printer Cartridges and BCMY recycling on the initiative.

You can help by donating your empty inkjet and laserjet printer cartridges (not toner cartridges) and old mobile phones: drop them off at 5 Dransfield Close. For further information, email g.m.drinkwater@btinternet.com.

You can also arrange for your old printer cartridges to be collected using the zerowasterecycling.co.uk website. If you click through via this website, CDYST will benefit from your contribution.

Wanted: your views on a possible cycle track at CDYST

The trustees at Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (CDYST) would like your thoughts on the possibility of installing a cycle track at the facility.

Read more below then email johnarawlinson67@gmail.com with your views.

Last summer we were asked to consider providing a cycle track on the grassed area to the left of the sports hall, when viewed from Coldwell Lane.

We have done some research and have hopefully secured some funding to go ahead with this project, but would welcome your ideas and thoughts before we proceed any further.

We envisage tarmacking a grassed area approximately 16m by 15m where children, and those who lack confidence on a bike, can safety practice their cycling skills on a flat piece of ground, away from the traffic. We could also consider painting on some road markings such as a mini roundabout, a give way sign etc.

In addition, we are considering making a long cycling track, again out of tarmac, which would run from the building, down towards the tennis courts, with a small turning circle at the end. This would not interfere with the football pitch in any way.

Is this something which you feel is a good idea, or would you prefer the land to be left as a grassed area? Any thoughts, ideas and suggestions would be very welcome.

We would appreciate the responses as soon as possible, as there is a time limit for applying for the grant. Unless we can secure this funding, we will be unable to proceed with the project.

Please contact the trustees using johnarawlinson67@gmail.com.
