3 March decision for Crosspool petrol station convenience store proposal

Crosspool petrol station: to be demolished and replaced with a retail development?

An application to demolish Crosspool’s Jet petrol station and replace it with a retail development has been recommended for conditional approval by planning officers.

A decision will be made at the council planning committee meeting on Tuesday 3 March.

You can read the report (PDF, 2MB) on the council website. The relevant section is on page 208 of the PDF document, which is labelled page 228..

The report states: “The principle of the development is acceptable because small retail stores are acceptable in housing areas and the applicant has demonstrated that there would be no harm to the existing neighbourhood centre and that there are no better alternative sites.”

The committee is a public meeting so you can attend and make representations to the committee if you so wish. The meeting starts at 2pm and if you do want to speak you should arrive before 2pm and let the committee clerk know of your intention.

Crosspool Forum’s Open Meeting on Thursday 12 February at St Columba’s will start at 7pm.

This meeting is the rearranged meeting from 29 January, which was cancelled due to snow.

Come along and give your concerns on local issues to local councillors, the police and officials.

Guest speakers this time include:

  • Nick Hetherington, network manager for AMEY Streets Ahead road resurfacing programme
  • First Group’s commercial and business manager Andy Metcalfe
  • Kathrine Harboard: Broomhill Library (National library day is 7 February)
  • Local business: Aligarh restaurant

Moor View Farm redevelopment update

The developers of Moor View Farm have been granted planning permission to demolish the out buildings and to build five detached and two semi-detached houses on the site.

The farmhouse refurbishment is well on its way to completion and the out buildings have now been demolished. The builders are presently awaiting the outcome of water and mine survey before work on the properties can begin.

As part of the scheme, local organisations can apply for a share of £13,000 to help fund projects that benefit the community.

The planning applications for the project were:

  • 14/02155/FUL for the building of houses on the lower part of the site
  • 14/02232/FUL for the upper part of the site to replace the dilapidated barns with two dwellings
  •  14/01368/FUL to add an extension to the existing farmhouse

Confidence and anxiety explored at discussion group

The Lent discussion group at St Columba’s and Stephen Hill Methodist church this year is based on the film The King’s Speech.

The Finding a Voice group will consider themes of confidence and anxiety.

Watch the film at St Columba’s at 6pm on Sunday 15 February and choose from evening sessions (7.30pm) on Wednesdays from 25 February  at St Columba’s, or daytime sessions (10.30am) on Thursdays from 26th February. All are welcome.
