Crosspool Forum is helping organise a course to help those less confident using tablets build their skills.
The 10-week course starts on Monday 12 May 2014 at the Scout Hall on Benty Lane and runs 1-3pm. Topics include:
- Identify the iPad’s features and use settings
- Use the iPad’s on-screen keyboard efficiently
- Use multi-touch gestures on the touch screen display
- Manage apps and make use of Safari and iTunes
- Capture photos and videos by using the iPad’s camera
- Identify Safari’s useful features and gain practical experience using a web browser
- Use the Settings more efficiently to personalise an iPad
- Experience using the App Store to download and use an application
- Gain practical experience of using both the Mail and Messages apps
- Find out about FaceTime
It costs £60, or £10 for those in receipt of means-tested benefits.

Crosspool Forum is helping organise three more courses to help those less confident using computers and tablets build their skills. They take place on different days, starting the week commencing 13 January 2014 at the Scout Hall on Benty Lane.
Learn how to us an iPad/tablet. Starts Tuesday 14 January 2014, 10am–12pm.
Moving On course
This course is suitable for those who attended the ‘iPad/tablet for Beginners’ course or who already have some knowledge of iPads/tablets. Starts Friday 17 January 2014, 10am–12pm.
Internet & Email course
Learn how to create an email address, surf and navigate your way around the internet. Starts Monday 13 January 2014, 1pm – 3pm
An iPad or laptop is provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you have one.
All courses are held at St John’s Scout Hut, Benty Lane, Crosspool, S10 5NF and cost just £10 for the whole course.

Over the next six weeks expert (DBS checked) tutors will be on hand to deliver free tuition sessions, either with iPads or internet-ready laptops, to the homes of housebound/lonely/isolated people, or those suffering from ill health.
The aim of the project is to break down loneliness and isolation by helping people:
- stay in touch with friends and family
- order shopping
- save time and hassle and money dealing with online public services
- access health websites
- keep the mind active
- look up hobbies and interests on any subject from gardening and cooking to knitting.

Meanwhile, the tablet/iPad classes, advertised to start 29 November 2013 in the Benty Lane Scout Hall, will now start 10am on Friday 13 January 2014.
A new course in Crosspool will give an introduction to using a tablet, such as the iPad. It has been designed to help people get the most from this increasingly popular technology.
The course lasts five weeks, starting 10am on Friday
18 25 October at the Scout Hall on Benty Lane, Crosspool. Each session is two hours long.
It costs £35 or £10 for people in receipt of certain benefits. iPads are provided, but you can also bring your own tablet.
