Don’t miss the Crosspool Summer Fayre on Saturday 4 July, one of the many events taking place as part of this year’s Crosspool Festival.

The dates for the 2015 Crosspool Festival are Friday 26 June to Sunday 5 July.
Here’s the latest from the Crosspool Festival Committee:

We hope to repeat many of the well-loved elements of festivals from previous years, plus a few new things! We will begin as usual with the blessing of the Magna Carta-themed well dressing on Friday evening, and Open Gardens on Saturday 27 June.
Plans for the street market on Sunday 28 June are well in hand. We are delighted to welcome the Sheffield Folk Chorale for a concert on Thursday 2 July.
Illustrated talks/book signing events have always proved popular and we have plans for a talk on a climbing/mountaineering theme as well as something on the Sheffield Blitz.
New for this year will be a family film show with crafts, and a photography competition for 11-18s. Rumours are afoot of a possible Abba evening , and other ideas are still being tossed around…and of course the Summer Fayre on the Coldwell Lane field will be the usual fixture on Saturday 4 July.
We’re grateful to the uniformed groups, local pubs and businesses and everyone else who have indicated their support – what makes the Crosspool Festival special is its genuinely local feel.
The Crosspool Festival committee are pleased to announce that this year’s festival raised £1,300 for Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre and the 36th Sheffield Scout Group based on Benty Lane.
Jack Todhunter has also made this video about one of the highlights of the festival, the Summer Fayre:
Why not get involved with Crosspool’s major annual community event? If you have ideas for future festivals or can spare any time to help, please contact the Festival Chair Frances Eccleston on f.m.eccleston@gmail.com or 0114 267 0006.

Plans for the fourth Crosspool Festival are progressing well. Make sure you have the dates in your diary: Friday 28 June–Sunday 7 July. The full programme and ticket details will be available in May, but in the meantime the first details from Frances Eccleston and the Festival Committee about some events are below.
Lots of other events are in the pipeline too, so look out for the programme in May, and we’ll also keep you posted through this website.
The organising committee is looking for someone to help design posters and fliers for the festival. This would suit someone with computer skills and a bit of artistic flair, and who could spare a few hours in early May.
For more information contact Frances Eccleston on f.m.eccleston@gmail.com or 0114 267 0006.
Why not take your mind off the current unseasonal weather with a sneak preview of what is in store for the 2012 Crosspool Festival?
This year’s festival runs 7-15 July. The programme will kick off with Crosspool Open Gardens on Saturday 7 July and it is hoped to repeat the street market and Crosspool’s Got Talent evening.
Plans are also underway for the creation of a well dressing and for Olympics-themed and musical events and there will be a summer fayre on Coldwell Lane on Saturday 14 July.
The local churches will be joining together for a closing services on Lydgate Green on Sunday 15 July, complete with brass band.
This is your chance to get involved with Crosspool’s major annual community event: if you can offer an hour or two to help, please get in touch with St Columba’s church parish office on st.columbas@hotmail.co.uk or 0114 267 0006.
Memories of Crosspool Festival 2011

Our bank account remains healthy– but this is because the grant for the flags has yet to be spent, and next years’ summer flowers will need to be paid for.
This will start on 7th July with Crosspool Open Gardens, and end with the Summer Fayre on Sat 14th, & Open Air service on Sun 15th. The Festival Committee would like some more helpers – please contact Rev Frances Eccleston or Ian.
Questions were taken on verge bollard use, bad parking on Manchester rd & the proposed closure of Manchester road round Stephen Hill, Delph Hse Rd & Selborne Rd for resurfacing.
Councillors answered questions such as a query on attic extension building and trespass by a neighbour, bus timetabling & the new Optio scheme (voluntary partnership agreement between Stagecoach & First – nos. 120 & 52 buses), and why the 51 never seems to come on time!
Residents were asked to keep details of timetabling failures & send them on to Ian Hague, or direct by phone to Pam Horner (SYPTE External Relationships Manager – 0114 2211452).
There were concerns over poor bus lane signage (Ripley St), silly bus lane sections (Mushroom Lane head), and why the 120 stop in town is Flat St & not the Interchange. The Vernon Tce bus shelter issue was raised again – & Cllr Anginotti suggested an online petition direct to Council about this.
Residents asked whether the post box could be moved from outside Craft Angels to a less congested spot in the shopping precinct, but this has been requested before & Royal Mail say they can not do so.
There was also a request to have the word ‘SLOW’ painted at the bottom of Sandygate Rd hill, where drivers come round the bend to the zebra crossing.
The next Open Meeting will be Thursday, 26 January 2012. 7pm, St Columba’s.

Teams from the local fire brigade and police force were at Saturday’s Summer Fayre, talking to residents about the work they do and allowing children to explore their vehicles.
A tug-o’-war rope had been set up and after watching some the public enjoy a challenge for fun, officers from South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue agreed to take each other on.
Watch a video of the duel below to find out which team ended up on the floor and just how much extra help the winners enlisted!
You can also see a film of local families enjoying a tug-o’-war challenge.
Yesterday hundreds of Crosspool residents turned out in the sunshine for our annual Summer Fayre on the Coldwell Lane CDYST sports field.
You can watch the video and view the photos below to catch a flavour of the day.
Look out for more videos from the festival this week, including dancing from the Street Market and the historic tug-o’-war between South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue!
This year’s Crosspool Festival is rounding off this weekend with two big community events.
From 2pm today on Coldwell Lane sports field (CDYST) the Summer Fayre takes place. There is loads going on, including live music, entertainment, dancing, a bouncy castle, side shows, games plus stalls selling crafts, flowers, food and drinks. It’ll be a great afternoon out for all the family.

And then tomorrow at 12.30pm why not head to Lydgate Green (the junction Lydgate Lane/Lydgate Hall Crescent) for Picnic in the Park? The four Crosspool/Sandygate churches host this event to mark the closing of the festival.
Enjoy music from the Chapeltown Silver Band and a brief talk from Ven. Martyn Snow, Archdeacon of Sheffield. Bring your rugs, picnics and children!
