Work has started on doing up the former Artisan building in Crosspool

A new curry house is to open in the former Artisan restaurant on Sandygate Road.

Work is currently being undertaken on the building. We don’t know yet of the planned opening date but the work should take around 3 weeks.

Ali the owner lives in Bradford and intends to employ a manager to run his new Crosspool restaurant.

Over the years the restaurant in that location has been known as Thyme, Smith’s and most recently Artisan, which closed in January. The upstairs area was also reinvented under different themes including fish restaurant Catch and budget eatery Canteen.

Older residents may remember the building operating as an Indian restaurant before chef and entrepreneur Richard Smith took it on.

Local shops targeted in mobile phone theft

A mobile phone was stolen from Bamforths greengrocer last month as thieves targeted Crosspool shops.

On Thursday 7 August two men were seen acting suspiciously as they visited the precinct shops and distracted owners. An iPhone was stolen from Bamforths.

Police are investigating and want to speak with two men captured on CCTV. Anyone with information should call them by dialling 101.

Handbag stolen in Crosspool doorbell scam

A Crosspool resident who had their handbag stolen from their house this week is warning people to be vigilant.

The person living on Tapton Crescent Road was in their garden with the back door open when the front doorbell rang. There was no-one there when they answered the door but on returning to the garden they saw their handbag had been stolen from inside their back door.

This theft follows reports from the local police at last night’s Open Meeting of washing from three different clothes lines being stolen on one day in the recent warm weather.

A Crosspool classic car owner is looking for other enthusiasts in the community to start a club.

Local resident Gavin Holliday, owner of a 1973 MG Midget, is keen to set up a very informal club to help owners can share knowledge, tips and get together for occasional runs and beer. He’d like like the club to reflect all classic marques or interesting vehicles.

The spirit of the Tour de France arrived in Crosspool today as handmade bunting, an official flag and a yellow bike were installed in the precinct.

As well as red, white and blue bunting, Crosspool Forum volunteers have also hand-knitted mini Tour de France jerseys which have been draped on the streetlight near GT News.

An official yellow tour flag is hanging above the chemist and a bike sprayed with yellow paint can now be found at the foot of the tree outside Spar.

House fire on Cardoness Road

A fire at a house on Cardoness Road was reported around 6.40pm last night and subsequently dealt with by the fire service.

There was one minor casualty, with a woman in her 50s treated for minor smoke inhalation but she did not need to attend hospital.

The fire, which involved a motorbike, started in a garage then spread into the kitchen of an adjoining house. The garage and kitchen suffered extensive damaged, and the rest of the house was heavily smoke logged.

Early indications are that the fire started accidentally, involving electrics in the garage.

The road was cordoned off, with three fire engines and police remaining on the scene until around 8.50pm.

Crosspool was awash with colour this week as flags were hung above the shops.

This year’s various flags include the white rose of Yorkshire, to mark the visit of the Tour de France to the county, flags to show support for England (and Italy, if you look above Guido’s!) in the world cup and also Union flags above some of the other shops.
