Registered Volunteers Waiting to Help

Crosspool Community Hub

Working with everyone in Crosspool
In conjunction with voluntary action Sheffield (VAS), based at
St Columba’s church office in Crosspool.  Tel: 0114 2670006St Columba's

If you are self-isolating, or simply struggling to cope with the current unprecedented situation we have a team of unpaid volunteers registered to help.

We are a flexible resource waiting to adapt to and help as best we can with whatever circumstances may arise during the pandemic and in its aftermath.

At the moment we have a list of local shops who can help with the supply of food and certain other products by delivering to you, and we have been working with them to prioritise those self-isolating or who just need some help.  Should demands on those services become stretched, we will step in to help with deliveries/collections.

We have volunteers who will be happy to simply talk on the phone as we are becoming aware of people’s increasing sense of loneliness due to the current situation.  And this may well be an increasingly important need over-coming months.

We are open to try and help whatever the problem. (Some of us are experienced dog-walkers if you are not able to leave home.) Please feel free to ring us, even if you are not sure we are the right people to help.  We are happy to listen and try to meet whatever needs arise.

The office is staffed from 9am-12noon Monday to Saturday, but there is a 24 hour answerphone.   Tel: 0114 2670006.

A round of applause around the country

Clap for our Carers

Tonight, Thursday 16th April at 8pm, join the nation in saying thank you,

Returning for the third week in succession, amid the current Covid-19 pandemic, people in Crosspool are expected to cheer, drum, whistle and clap from doorsteps, windows, gardens, and balconies to show all who are working on the front Line our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against this dreadful virus.

People are urged to avoid the misguided attempt to support the NHS with Union Jack sky lanterns.
It’s wonderful that people are looking for ways to show their support for the NHS staff and other key workers at this challenging time, but while sky lanterns might look pretty in the sky, the RSPCA reminds us that they pose a serious danger to horses, farm animals and wildlife. “Sadly, many people are unaware of the potentially deadly consequences that the release of sky lanterns can have for animals. They can suffer through ingestion, entanglement and entrapment, or simply the sight of a lit lantern in the sky can be terrifying for them and cause them to bolt and harm themselves”.

All emergency services are currently under unprecedented pressure, so this type of hazardous activity posing a potential danger to wildlife, pets and people, could not only put additional pressure on the fire service but a further strain on the NHS.

Stay safe and support our NHS and key works with your applause tonight at 8pm

Thank you

Garden Fires -Take the Pledge

SYFS

Take the pledge – no bonfires during the pandemic

Firefighters across South Yorkshire are asking people to pledge not to have a garden fire during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic

This latest plea comes as South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue saw a huge spike in garden fires during the last week in March, – a 161 percent increase compared to a normal week

The service has also been contacted by a number of residents who have found it hard to physically leave their homes to exercise, due to the smoke coming from local garden fires where people have been burning garden and household waste.

Their message is also being backed by local authorities across the county, with an increase in air pollution being shown to negatively affect the health of those with respiratory illnesses.SYFR_Garden_Fire_Facebook_Facebook-773x296

To sign the pledge, visit http://www.syfire.gov.uk/pledge.

In pledging not to have a garden fire during the on-going pandemic, you will be supporting your firefighters and people with respiratory illnesses. Every pledge makes a difference.

Clap for Carers returns for a Third Week

 Clap for our Carers

A round of applause around the country

Tonight, Thursday 9th April at 8pm, join the nation in saying thanks,

Returning for the second week in succession, amid the coronavirus outbreak, people in Crosspool are expected to light up the sky with cheering, drumming, whistling and clapping from doorsteps, windows, gardens, and balconies as a tribute to our NHS carers and key workers, who are working round the clock to help keep us all safe in these very difficult times.

Thank you

Keep Exercising

With our warmest wishes to keep safe and well.

We would like to encourage all who attend the Tuesday morning Easy Exercise class, in the Benty Lane Scout Hall, to keep exercising during Self-isolating and Social distancing.

Observing these crucial measures, taken by the government to minimise the spread of Covid-19, will have undoubtedly had an impact on your physical and mental wellbeing, so staying active during this difficult time is a great way to ward off some of the psychological issues associated with being cooped up for an extended time.

NHS exercise advice and guidance to ensure we make the most of the situation and keep fit and healthy until such time as we can socialise once again.

In the blink of an eye, their lives have been turned upside down and they are expected to follow rules they have never known, and live a life they couldn’t have ever imagined.

To show how proud we are of them aIL let’s get everyone clapping, on this warm and sunny day, for our little heroes?

TODAY at 3:00pm Sunday 5th April 2020  Clapping children
