Crosspool restaurant Artisan put up for sale

Artisan is up for sale

Crosspool’s Michelin Guide-endorsed restaurant Artisan has been put on the market by owners Brewkitchen.

Richard Smith, BrewKitchen chef director, said: “We have developed the BrewKitchen brand significantly during the last 12 months and feel that Artisan no longer fits the profile.

“It is, and always has been, a successful restaurant and a pleasure to run – operating it for almost 20 years with buoyant sales and continued popularity is testament to that.

“Our decision to sell comes knowing it best lends itself to being an owner-run establishment – there’s plenty for someone to get their teeth into, as I experienced when I was in the kitchen.”

BrewKitchen has expanded significantly in the last year, opening Graze Inn on Ecclesall Road and launching Jack Baker’s Brasserie at The Beauchief. The group plans on turning  The Brasserie into their flagship Sheffield outlet.

Sheffield Hallam MP and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg was in Crosspool today with his family on a visit the Selborne Road street market.

We spent a few minutes asking him about the street market, how often he is up in his constituency and his thoughts on some possible opponents at the 2015 general election.

Overall, the street market was a big success with stalls selling food, cakes, plants, crafts, jewellery, clothes and books. There was also music and dance from local schools and groups.

A Crosspool club for toddlers who like to get messy – and parents who dare to let them – starts in June.

Messy Mangoes takes place at Lounge @ Crosspool on Mondays from 3 June between 1.30 and 2.30pm and lasts for six weeks.

Organiser Kate Hill, Crosspool Mum of two and founder of www.funmefit.com explained: “As a mum and a bit of a play promoter, I think it’s so important to let children get messy, have fun and socialise in a relaxed setting. The fact that we’ll be playing with fruit and vegetables, tasting them along the way is obviously a healthy twist! Sure it’ll be great fun for us mums too at Paula’s cafe!”

It’s for the under 4s and baby siblings are obviously free. A drink plus healthy snacks for toddlers are provided. It’s £3.50 per session per toddler and they’ll receive a little certificate and achievement folder at the end.

If you’re interested then book soon via messymangos@gmail.com or 07854 682323 as half the 10 places have been already taken.

Submit your garden for the new-look Crosspool Open Gardens

Crosspool Open Gardens 2011
Open up your garden as part of this year’s Crosspool Open Gardens

The organisers of Crosspool Open Gardens are inviting everyone to share their gardens and raise money for charities as part of a revamped event for this year’s festival.

Traditionally the event has attracted gardens with impressive displays of flowers, fruit and vegetables. This year they’re also looking for Crosspool residents to show their neighbours some of the other ways that people are using gardens.

Organiser Lindsey Beagles explained: “People use their gardens for lots of things as well as flowers and veg. Having a cuppa, looking at the view, BBQs, hobbies such as art, music, restoring cars or mending bikes, football, keeping chickens, bees or fish are all just as valid a reason to share your garden.

“Maybe you have a great play area for the kids, or someone may want to do nail art on the patio for charity. I want people to share their space with their neighbours and raise some money for charity in the process. So it is not just about fantastic gardens although as we have seen, there are plenty of these in Crosspool!”

Crosspool Open Gardens 2013 takes place on Saturday 29 June. Gardens are usually open between 10:30 and 4:30pm, although you don’t have to open all day if you don’t want. Any money you raise from opening up your garden should be donated to a charity of your choice.

Interested in getting involved? Get in touch with Lindsey before the end of May on 0114 230 1041 or lindseybeagles@gmail.com.
