Census 2021 is coming on Sunday 21st March

Census 2021

The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. By taking part, you can help inform decisions about services that shape your community.

Having received in the post, your letter with an access code and instructions from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), you can now complete your census online. If your household circumstances change on Census Day, you can let the ONS know

There is a help area on the census website www.census.gov.uk covering everything from who to include on the questionnaire to how to answer each question.

You must complete the census by law or you could be fined up to £1,000.
Some questions are labelled as voluntary. It is not an offence if you do not answer these.

Has Crosspool Got Talent

Bob Townrow is in the process of organising a virtual concert on Zoom at 7.30pm, Thursday March 11th. Although the concert is free, Stephen Hill Methodist and St Columba’s Church will be happy to receive donations towards their charities. Please contact Bob for details of how to contribute.

Dependent on the number of people coming forward to perform, it is anticipated that the concert will, with a short interval, last for around an hour and a half.

If you have songs to sing, music to play, poems to recite, or short pieces of writing you would like to read; a dance routine, conjuring or anything visual that would work on Zoom, please get in touch with Bob for the link.

Is there anyone you know that may be hiding their light under a bushel, and too shy or modest to come forward who you would like to see take part in the concert, if so please let Bob have their details. (Your name will not be mentioned)

The Census Is Coming

Community Handbook

The census is coming. By taking part, you can help inform decisions on services that shape your community, such as healthcare, education and transport.

The census is a unique survey that happens every 10 years. It gives us a snapshot of all the people and households in England and Wales – the most detailed information we have about our society.

It’s important that you fill in your census questionnaire. Without the information you share, it’d be more difficult to understand your community’s needs and to plan and fund public services.

In one way or another, your information touches the lives of every single person living in England and Wales, whether it’s through using census information to plan new schools, doctors’ surgeries or bike lanes.

Because these things matter to us all, everyone needs to complete the census. Do not worry, government officials dealing with applications you’ve made or payments or services you receive cannot see it.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) runs the census in England and Wales and is independent from government. Your details are protected by law and information published is always anonymous.

Census Day is Sunday 21 March 2021. You can fill yours in online as soon as you get your access code in the post. If your household circumstances change on Census Day, you can let the ONS know.

Everyone should have the support they need to fill in the census. If you, or anyone you know, needs help, there’s a wide range of support services available.

These include a contact centre that can give you help over the phone and guidance in a range of languages and accessible formats, including paper questionnaires and large print.

Stay Safe

Guy Fawkes Night, Guy Fawkes Day, Fireworks Night, whatever you call it, Bonfire night will be different this year, so it’s important to have fun responsibly and follow the National Corvid19 restrictions.

As good as South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue crews are – and they really are good – they can’t be in two places at once, so if you are having a bonfire please be extra careful, as they need to keep crews available for real emergencies.

Halloween Night with a Difference

Halloween in Crosspool was a much more muted affair this year.

Due to harsh Tier 3 social distancing regulations, all the most popular activities for children at this time of year, trick-or-treating, parties, nights out and events that see pumpkins and skeletons popping up in Crosspool, had to be scaled back this year.

Determined that children could still celebrate and enjoy the spirit of trick or treat night, local residents went the extra mile with their spectacular ghostly, creepy and supernatural displays. Following social distancing, children and grownups were able to appreciate and delight in these many spooky creations as they made their way along the “Lydgate Juniors Pumpkin Trail.”…

Art in the Gardens

The largest outdoor art market in the north of England!

The 2020 Sheffield City Council annual Art in the Gardens event in the Sheffield Botanical Gardens.

Saturday 5th September and Sunday 6th September
Two sessions each day 10.30am -14:00pm and 14:00pm -17:30pm.

Admission tickets for over 16 years £5.00, under 16 years free.

Crosspool and Friends Scarecrow Competition

Crosspool Scarecrow Competition 2020

2020 Scarecrow Competition

The competition theme is Key Workers (e.g. NHS, care workers, shop workers, emergency services, postman/woman, teacher etc.
This can be someone you know, your own mind’s creation or someone from TV/Film (e.g. Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Jonny English, Sidney Poitier from To Sir, with Love, etc. etc.). 
However, this is for fun so create a scarecrow of any other theme if you prefer.

Scarecrows should be on display from June 6th until at least June 24th. 
Winners will be announced on Sunday, 24th June.  

To support local businesses, the winner and runner-up will receive a £50 credit for The Crosspool Tavern or Crosspool Sportsman pub (for food ;-)) when they re-open (this will be arranged and paid for by the competition coordinator).  Winner gets first choice out of the two pubs.

Applause for Frontline Workers

Applause for Frontline Workers Tonight at 8pm

giphy clap2Over the past eight weeks, there have been many ways that we have shown our appreciation and gratitude to thank all the brave front line NHS key workers for their exceptional dedication during these unprecedented times.

Tonight at the dedicated time of 8pm, whilst continuing to show our support in the usual way, with a huge round of applause from our front doors, balconies, windows, and living rooms; let us give a thought for the wellbeing of the front line local authority staff who, during the COVID19 pandemic, have continued to function and carry out their very important roles and manage the increasing need for their services and information whilst dealing with their own personal situations and emotions.

Clap for Carers Tonight 14 May

Tonight Thursday 14th May at 8pm you are encouraged to join in by clapping on your doorstep, your balcony, your garden, or front room to celebrate the work of everyone at the frontline of the NHS and social care.

During these unprecedented and constantly changing times, tonight spare a special thought for the 10,000 Shared Lives carers who share their home and community life, working tirelessly to protect and support people of all ages with a physical disability, learning disability or mental illness, who need personal care and practical support.

Our clapping hands together echo our appreciation to the entire health and social care workforce and express our thanks and recognition for the valuable work those at the forefront of this pandemic do to protect and keep the most vulnerable safe.

Let’s hear it for Shared Lives carers!
