Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is chosen as a Co-op Local Community

Whirlow Coop

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is delighted to have been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

At a time when funds for community groups and charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, they’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in Sheffield.

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is raising funds to support the costs of running their education programmes on their working farm. It costs over £1million each year to run their charity and provide educational visits for children and young people. They have specialist programmes to help children and young people with additional learning needs and/or struggling with their mental health. They work with primary and secondary age children as well as those over sixteen.Whirlow Lamb

Their mission is to ensure there is a place in education for every child.

To help them raise vital funds, they’ll be relying on Co-op members. When a member buys selected products or services from the Co-op they earn a 5% reward for themselves, with a further 1% for local causes like Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

The Co-op is looking to support organisations that make a difference in their local communities by protecting & improving community spaces, helping people reach their full potential by developing their skills or promoting health and well-being.

Co-op members can choose Whirlow Hall Farm Trust as their local cause by visiting membership.coop.co.uk/causes/34939. They really hope that people will visit the website and donate their 1% to the Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.

If you’re not a member and would like to support them, you can join at your local store or online
at www.coop.co.uk.

When a community comes together they’re able to achieve great things, so they hope you can help promote their project.

Before you put your black, blue and brown bins out over Christmas, check what day Veolia will be coming to empty them – as it might be different over the festive period.

Extra Waste and Recycling

Over the festive period, it is likely that you will produce lots of extra waste, including wrapping paper, Christmas cards, boxes, catalogues, glass and plastic bottles, biscuit/chocolate tins and lots more.

You can place small amounts of extra paper and card, tied in a bundle no bigger than your bin, next to your blue bin for collection.

Between 27th December and 23rd January ONLY they will collect extra tins, cans, and plastic bottles. Just put them inside a tied carrier bag next to your brown bin.
Any glass bottles or jars must be placed inside your brown bin; otherwise, your extra recycling will not be collected.

Crosspool to Pilot Street Light Dimming

Residents to have their say on street light dimming.

streetlightCrosspool, Endcliffe, and Meersbrook have been selected for the trialled dimming of street lighting levels.

From Monday 19 August to Friday 13 September 2019, residents will see street lighting in these pilot areas of the city being reduced by up to an additional 14%.

Households in the chosen areas will each receive a letter inviting them to attend an information session in their local library. Residents across the city will also be invited to take part in an online consultation on the proposals.

The views of those in the pilot areas will then be assessed alongside the views from respondents across the city.

The proposals will see street lights switch on responsively at 80% instead of the current 84% before midnight and reduce from 54% to 40% at midnight until 5am, whilst still meeting the requirements of the current national Code of Practice.

South Yorkshire Police are aware of the proposal and the council will continue to work with them, and other stakeholders, to assess and evaluate the impact on communities.

Emergency services will still be able to request an increase in lighting levels, in response to certain incidents, when required.

Supporting the first priority of the 2018 Green City Strategy, Sheffield has one of the most advanced street lighting systems in the UK, with the ability to vary lighting levels – even down to individual lighting columns.

As a result of the Streets Ahead investment, Sheffield now has a complete network of state-of-the-art white LED street lights. In the first five years of the programme, more than 66,000 new LED street lights were installed across the city; ensuring safer and more energy-efficient light distribution.

A link to the briefing report and associated maps of the trial areas can be found at: https://bit.ly/2M0D6ZJ

The city-wide consultation will open in coming weeks and, once live, will be available on the council’s website at: https://sheffield.citizenspace.com/

RESURFACING WORK on sections of Manchester Road & Rivelin Valley Road

As part of the Streets Ahead highway works Amey will soon be resurfacing some sections of the following roads;

Manchester Road/Rivelin Valley Road – Rivelin Valley

Work is about to start on Manchester Road (from Sheffield/Derbyshire boundary to Rivelin Valley Road) and work on the remaining section of Manchester Road and Rivelin Valley Road will take place in early to mid-August. Work will take place between the hours of 8pm and 5am, Monday – Friday only.

The work has been scheduled to take place at night to minimise disruption in the area. Amey appreciate that any disruption can be frustrating and thank you for your understanding whilst these important works are completed.

Please note this work will be completed under a road closure, and there will be no on-street parking on the section of road that they are resurfacing during working hours. Vehicles left on-street may be towed away and you will need to pay a fee to have your vehicle released.

Temporary road signs will be displayed ten days before work starts confirming the dates and duration of works and parking restriction signs will be displayed five days before.

PARKING AND ACCESS ARRANGEMENTS
Access to properties on the roads being worked on may be limited during working hours. On-street parking will be as normal at other times. Please let the Amey on-site supervisor know if you need vehicle access to your property for urgent reasons. Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will be available at all times.
If you are away during the period in which the works are scheduled to take place, please avoid parking your car on the road. The work schedule is heavily dependent on the weather and can be affected by unforeseen circumstances, so it may be necessary to change the start date at short notice. To ensure that the programme is delivered to schedule, cars that are delaying the works will need to be towed away.

BUS SERVICE AND BIN COLLECTION CHANGES
Changes to your regular bus service or diversion routes will be publicised by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport (SYPTE). Please check your local bus stop or http://www.travelsouthyorkshire.com for any route changes. You can also call Traveline on 01709 515151 or follow @TravelSYorks on Twitter.

If there are any changes to your bin collection days these will be communicated by Veolia at http://www.veolia.co.uk/sheffield or on Twitter @Recycle4Shef. Call 0114 273 4567 between 8am and 6pm for more information.

ROAD SAFETY

  • Be patient and take extra care during road works.
  • Make sure to allow extra time for your journey.
  • Stick to the designated diversion routes and always drive within the speed limit.

BOGUS CALLERS
If you are approached by someone claiming to be from Amey, the Council or connected to the Streets Ahead programme offering to resurface your drive please do not hand over any money. If possible take the callers details, including their vehicle registration number and Streets Ahead/Amey will inform the Police. All Streets Ahead and Amey employees carry identity cards.
