Service of Remembrance

Crosspool Memorial

Today, Thursday 11th November at 11 am, a lone trumpeter, playing an emotive solo, joined the Rev. Suzanne Nockels in a service of remembrance around the Crosspool memorial in the Garden at Tapton Hill Congregational Church.

Eighteen people (one gentleman with a chest full of medals), came together in prayer to remember the sacrifice of those around the world whose life has been touched by conflict for democracy and freedom,

At the setting of the sun, we will remember them!!

Exercise to Improve Your Health

To help ensure that we all make the most of the NHS exercise advice and guidance to keep fit, mentally alert and healthy, the Crosspool Forum continues to offer a choice of Easy Exercise and Tai Chi classes.

Easy Exercise: Tuesday morning 10:45 -11:45

Easy Exercise is a chair-based exercise aimed at people who wish to either maintain or increase their Independence, with exercises to strengthen muscles and bones. Stronger muscles help to improve circulation balance and walking, making everyday activities such as washing, dressing, shopping, or doing housework easier and less of a strain.

Tai Chi: Wednesday mornings 10:45 -11:45

Tai Chi is a slow physical exercise ideal for improving relaxation, balance and overall health and physical fitness. These sessions are great for beginners and can really help you improve your strength and balance.

You don’t need any specific clothing; just wear something you’re comfortable in and non-marking footwear

No need to book; simply come along to the Scout Hall on Benty Lane, Crosspool.

Support Dogs – Looking for Volunteers

Could you look after a life-saving assistance dog of the future?

Sheffield-based national charity “Support Dogs” is urgently looking for volunteers to look after its puppies and young dogs before and during their training.

Sam, who has autism, with his life-changing assistance dog, Willow.

“Support Dogs”, whose training centre is in Brightside, trains assistance dogs for children with autism and adults with epilepsy and a range of serious medical conditions, enabling them to lead safer, more independent lives.

Janet Dyson with Frank

None of its puppies or dogs-in-training ever spends a night in kennels but stay with local dog-loving families in and around Sheffield. Due to high demands for its services, which are provided free of charge, the charity now needs more people to volunteer as puppy socialisers – who look after pups aged between eight weeks and 15 months – and foster carers – who look after young dogs in training, in the evenings and at weekends. Lots of support is provided, including holiday cover, and regular puppy classes.

If you’d like to find out more go to http://www.supportdogs.org.uk/volunteer or contact Support Dogs on 0114 2617800 or info@supportdogs.org.uk
