Tribute to Cllr. Anne Murphy

Cllr. Anne Murphy

It was with a deep sense of shock and real sorrow that we heard of the death of Cllr. Anne Murphy.

We are sure that these feelings are shared by all who knew and came into contact with Anne during her many years as Councillor for Crookes and Crosspool and as a previous Lord Mayor of Sheffield

Anne was a kind, caring and compassionate person, always ready to give her help and support to those in need.  She will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gavin and family at this very sad time.

Lydgate Junior’s to Benefit from £1bn Redevelopment Scheme

Lydgate Junior School is one of six schools in Sheffield celebrating the news that they have been selected to be part of the Department for Education’s £1bn school rebuilding programme, This takes the number of Sheffield schools to benefit to seven.

The programme includes 239 schools nationwide that will receive funding for their school to be refurbished or rebuilt to support levelling up opportunities across the country. The staff and pupils from each of the six Sheffield schools can now look forward to working and learning in state-of-the-art facilities, setting the school up for high educational standards for all its pupils for decades to come.

Across the School Rebuilding Programme, the rebuilds and refurbishments will create modern education environments and provide new facilities. Redevelopments will also be net zero carbon in operation, helping to meet Sheffield’s net zero ambitions.

While details around the exact amount of funding and timescales for delivery are still to be confirmed, DfE representatives, the local authority- maintained schools and the Sheffield City Council will begin engagement on initial consultation plans.

Further details on the plans and timescales for delivery will be announced in the coming months.

All the schools will remain open throughout the redevelopment.

More information on the school’s rebuilding programme can be found at About the school rebuilding programme – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Brass Quartet

last Saturday lunchtime we were privileged to listen to a lovely brass quartet playing Christmas Carols outside “Charisma” in the Crosspool precinct.
Sadly the weather was awful and after 20 minutes we retired to the Nest café to continue listening and to dry off.
Big thanks to Joy and the players for braving the weather for the shopper’s pleasure.
We are looking forward to seeing them in the precinct next year, with hopefully better weather, – and we’ll bring some words so we can sing along.  (Bob & Margaret)

Crosspool Christmas Trees 2022

Just a few of the many volunteers

Just a few of the guys and gals who turned out to brave a cold and dank Sunday morning to help adorn a festival of 22 Christmas trees with twinkling lights, before putting them up in the Crosspool shopping precinct to celebrate Christmas 22.

Through the hard work of our community volunteers and the generosity of Crosspool businesses, the Crosspool Forum has once again provided (Valley Side Garden Centre) Christmas trees, each decorated by groups of individuals, to bring cheer and joy to shoppers using the precinct.

Steve and Ian would like to thank the volunteers and local businesses, without whose help and support the Crosspool Forum simply couldn’t run this event

A special mention must go to the staff of Hudson’s café, who once again generously donated cups of tea and coffee for all the volunteers, and to Direct Travel for allowing us to use their concourse for preparing the Christmas trees.
