Permission sought to extend former coffee shop house

The former Crosspool coffee shop building

Plans have been submitted for an extension to the former Crosspool Coffee Shop house located between Manchester Road and Lydgate Lane.

Previously a public toilet, the building closed as a coffee shop in January 2011 and is currently a two-bedroom residential house.

The new plans involve extending the house to to the kerb edge next to the phone box in order to accommodate additional reception rooms and bedrooms. A driveway entrance would be located on the Manchester Road side and the site plan indicates that trees would need to be removed to make room for the larger building.

You can comment on the application on the Sheffield City Council website. The standard consultation is due to end on Tuesday 20 May 2014, with a decision potentially being made on Tuesday 3 June 2014.

Lydgate Green needs your unwanted plants

Lydgate Green
Lydgate Green

The Friends of Lydgate Green are asking if anyone has any plants they could donate to help improve the green space.

Secretary Roger Burkinshaw explains: “We replanted Lydgate Green last summer but the beds are looking a bit sparse after losses from the very wet winter and more annoyingly from the theft of half a dozen rose bushes.

“Do you have any plants you could donate? For example, if you are tidying your garden and have any plants that have grown too large or you are splitting clumps of perennials etc, we would love to have them.”

If you can spare any plants then please let Roger know by emailing woodster.rog@gmail.com. The Friends of Lydgate Green will then plant them up for everyone to enjoy.

Water main repairs have meant there are temporary lights in the precinct

A burst water main on Sandygate Road caused interrupted water supplies for some local buildings and minor delays in the precinct yesterday.

Temporary lights were installed in order for repairs to take place, resulting in only a single lane of traffic being able to pass outside the former Artisan restaurant building.

Water supplies were restored to 32-54 Sandygate Road at around 2pm on Wednesday. The roadworks and traffic lights are still in place this morning.

Book a stall at Crosspool Street Market on Sunday 29 June

Crosspool Street Market takes place each year on Selborne Road as part of Crosspool Festival.

The market includes a mix of stalls selling food, cakes, plants, art, crafts, jewellery, clothes and books, plus local school children perform music and dance. Last year the deputy prime minister even popped by!

If you’re interested in booking a stall at this year’s street market on Sunday 29 June contact Chris on batchelor.cl@gmail.com or 0114 266 7842. The organisers would be particularly keen to hear from more people wanting to host a food stall.
