Volunteer wins 2017 Crosspool community award

A local resident who has spent decades helping out in our local community has been rewarded with this year’s Crosspool Person of the Year award.
Sheila Lomas is well known for her voluntary work at Tapton Congregational Church where she has been involved with hosting garden parties, Christmas events and summer fetes and other fundraisers.
Her selfless work in the local community has been truly remarkable and she is a worthy recipient for this award.
In 1997 Sheila started the Soup and a Roll lunch club with 6 guests. Still running today, it has grown to nearly 40 diners, meeting monthly for lunch, a natter and an afternoon of entertainment.
Crosspool Forum had arranged for the Lord Mayor Councillor Anne Murphy to make the presentation at the Open Meeting on Thursday, but due to a last minute reschedule the Lord Mayor was unable to attend and has therefore kindly agreed to officially present Sheila with the award a little later in the year.
Open Meeting on Thursday 26 October 2017
Crosspool Forum’s next Open Meeting will take place on Thursday 26 October at St Columba’s church. It starts at 7pm.
Come along and give your concerns on local issues to local councillors, the police and officials.

Crosspool now has a community defibrillator

Thanks to a generous donation from a local resident and a council grant Crosspool Forum has been able to buy and install a defibrillator for emergency use in the community.
The defibrillator is located on the right-hand external side wall of St Columba’s church, Manchester Road S10 5PL.
In the event of an emergency, where you think someone might require the defibrillator:
- Call 999 as usual
- Let the emergency services know that there is a defibrillator locally
- The emergency services will then let you know the access code and the procedure to be follow so that you, your staff or others involved can help
Defibrillators have been shown to save lives around the country and we hope that this will be a valuable asset to the community.
If you have any queries please contact Crosspool Forum on crosspoolforum@gmail.com.
