Take the Kids Scarecrow Spotting in Crosspool

As part of 2020 Crosspool Scarecrow competition, nifty scarecrows have today descended into the Crosspool area.

If you’re out and about around the Crosspool area over the next two or so weeks, you can have lots of fun scarecrow-hunting with the kids. You might be pondering as to where they have all come from.

As a cheery respite from Covid19 pandemic and a big big thank you to all Key workers, homeowners, community groups have been invited to make and display their own imaginative scarecrows.

Competition Scarecrows, judged by LORD COE and MAGID to be First, Second & Third prize winners, will be announced on Wednesday 24th June.

Crosspool Shops Partially Reopen

After ten weeks of lock down, to some extent, four more Crosspool shops will reopen tomorrow.

CROSSPOOL PET SUPPLIES
Following on from our telephone delivery service during the Covid19 Lockdown, I will now be reopening the shop from Monday 1st June.2020.

For the short-term I will be open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Thanks for your continued support!! Rob.

We are now reopened for our Take Away Collection Service between 5pm to 8pm, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Different mouth-watering offers available every week.

CLAP FOR OUR CARERS ONE LAST TIME

Clap For Our Carers One Last Time Tonight at 8pm

Thanks for sharing your appreciation standing up and applauding for our amazing frontline NHS and key workers every week.

Every Thursday evening at 8pm for the last nine weeks the community of Crosspool have come together to show their gratitude for all those who care for us.

For one last time, we hope you will join with your family and neighbours tonight to show your thanks and appreciation for the front line workers selfless dedication to caring for us with (for now) a final applause.

Even though tonight will see an end to the official weekly Clap for Our Carers and key worker heroes, “Clap-For-Our-Carers” will continue to evolve with an annual national event – “Clap For Our Carers” Day – one year on from the first applause on the  25th March 2021,

Please don’t stop saying thank you in your own way.

Flower Planters Removed

Flower planters removed from Broomhill shopping centre to make way for ‘social distancing’

The community of Broomhill were confused and flabbergasted to find that their lovely floral display planters, regularly tended by local residents, has been removed and replaced with squares of Tarmac.   

Apparently, the Planters in the Broomhill shopping Centre had been moved to help create more space for pedestrians to safely social distance and as part of the council’s work to create safe active travel routes around the city.

Councillor Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Transport and Sustainability at Sheffield City Council, explains why the planters have been moved:

“As we move into the next phase of lockdown and people start to move around their communities more frequently, it is essential that we create the space needed to allow safe social distancing.

“Fulwood Road was identified as one location where extra space could be created to give people an alternative route to the row of shops, which could become congested. “In the first stage of works to create a footpath, planters blocking this pedestrian route have been temporarily moved to Division Street, where they will form part of the road closure in place to encourage active travel in the city centre. The parking meter and sign on the same footpath will also be moved so that the path is unobstructed.

“As the initial temporary road closure measures on Division Street are upgraded, the planters will be reinstated into Broomhill Centre ensuring that space for social distancing can be maintained.”

2020 Scarecrow Competition

The competition theme is Key Workers (e.g. NHS, care workers, shop workers, emergency services, postman/woman, teacher etc.
This can be someone you know, your own mind’s creation or someone from TV/Film (e.g. Postman Pat, Fireman Sam, Jonny English, Sidney Poitier from To Sir, with Love, etc. etc.). 
However, this is for fun so create a scarecrow of any other theme if you prefer.

Scarecrows should be on display from June 6th until at least June 24th. 
Winners will be announced on Sunday, 24th June.  

To support local businesses, the winner and runner-up will receive a £50 credit for The Crosspool Tavern or Crosspool Sportsman pub (for food ;-)) when they re-open (this will be arranged and paid for by the competition coordinator).  Winner gets first choice out of the two pubs.

How Households are Coping with Covid-19.

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all keeping safe! I’m a journalist at ITV Calendar.

We are looking for a street in Sheffield who are friendly with each other and who have a tight knit sense of community.

We want to speak to a number of houses on the street for a piece we’re doing – looking at how different households are coping with Covid-19.

We’re looking for a range of people to speak to, from families, to the elderly, to single parents or people on their own.

Applause for Frontline Workers

Applause for Frontline Workers Tonight at 8pm

giphy clap2Over the past eight weeks, there have been many ways that we have shown our appreciation and gratitude to thank all the brave front line NHS key workers for their exceptional dedication during these unprecedented times.

Tonight at the dedicated time of 8pm, whilst continuing to show our support in the usual way, with a huge round of applause from our front doors, balconies, windows, and living rooms; let us give a thought for the wellbeing of the front line local authority staff who, during the COVID19 pandemic, have continued to function and carry out their very important roles and manage the increasing need for their services and information whilst dealing with their own personal situations and emotions.

Healthy Exercise

Tai Chi Instructors David and Rachel Barrow (wutaichi.co.uk) run an outpatient clinic at the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire Hospitals, for people with heart /cardiac and balance problems and in more normal time’s Tai Chi classes throughout the city. One of which, until the government restrictions on social distancing and mass gatherings, was the class hosted by the Crosspool forum in the scout hall, Benty Lane, Crosspool, Tuesday mornings at 10.45.

We recognise that maintaining physical fitness and mental alertness, is now perhaps more crucial than ever, so to help ensure that we make the most of the situation and endeavour to follow the NHS exercise advice and guidance to keep fit and healthy. |Until such time as we can socialise once again, David and Rachel (in spite of choosing one of the only rainy and cold days we have had in the last two months) have generously sent us a video of Rachel demonstrating (in mirror image) a short Ma Chi Kung exercise programme that you may like to try.

Clap for Carers Tonight 14 May

Tonight Thursday 14th May at 8pm you are encouraged to join in by clapping on your doorstep, your balcony, your garden, or front room to celebrate the work of everyone at the frontline of the NHS and social care.

During these unprecedented and constantly changing times, tonight spare a special thought for the 10,000 Shared Lives carers who share their home and community life, working tirelessly to protect and support people of all ages with a physical disability, learning disability or mental illness, who need personal care and practical support.

Our clapping hands together echo our appreciation to the entire health and social care workforce and express our thanks and recognition for the valuable work those at the forefront of this pandemic do to protect and keep the most vulnerable safe.

Let’s hear it for Shared Lives carers!
