Crosspool Open Gardens 2017

Each year, people in Crosspool enjoy looking round a range of gardens, chatting to neighbours, sharing gardening tips and stories, discovering Crosspool’s wildlife, seeing unusual garden activities (we have had bee-keeping, model railways etc.), drinking tea and eating home-made cakes, selling plants, bric-a-brac, books etc., and raising money for their chosen charity.

If you would be interested in opening your garden, however large or small, front or back, ordinary or special, please contact Sue Day or Ken Rutter at 49 Benty Lane or call on 0114 268 0088 or email 156kar@gmail.com as soon as you can to find out more.

Amey have confirmed that any Manchester Road verges that are damaged as part of the Streets Ahead project will be repaired.

Spokesperson Claire Tideswell said: “I have been speaking with our site team and they have advised me that when doing the pavement resurfacing work there may well be some minimal verge damage as a result of the work we’re doing. This will be likely from week commencing 27 February as we move closer towards Crosspool.

“Once the work has been completed we will then re-soil and re-seed any areas which have been damaged as a result of the works. We will take as much care as possible but some damage will unfortunately be inevitable.

“The contractor is aware of the bulbs which are planted in the verges and have bought their concerns to our attention.”

Sainsbury’s will not appeal The Plough pub planning decision

Sainsbury’s will not be appealing the planning decision for The Plough, according to the Save the Plough and the Sporting Heritage of Sandygate campaign group.

In the Sheffield Telegraph, a spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s said: “Following the decision to refuse the planning application, we have reviewed our options and have decided not to proceed with an appeal. We will continue to look for further opportunities in the area.”

True North Brewery, the owners of several successful South Yorkshire pubs including The York in Broomhill, said in another Sheffield Telegraph article that they’d be interested in buying The Plough pub should it be put on the market.

The convenience store planning application from Sainsbury’s was refused permission at the Sheffield City Council planning committee meeting on 10 January.
