Fancy being part of the largest women’s voluntary organisation in the country? This year the Women’s Institute celebrated its centenary and is going from strength to strength.
Crosspool WI has just welcomed in a new president, Dawn Boulter, so it’s a very exciting time to join.
As we move in to 2016 we have a fantastic programme of events, which will soon be available to pick up from Stephen Hill church.
Crosspool Women’s Institute is open looking for new members.
Now is a good time to sign up, as you can currently get a subscription of 15 months for the price of 12 for October onwards.
September’s first meeting takes place tonight, Monday 16 September from 7-9pm at St Columba’s Church with a talk by Gill Upham, titled Homeopathy: the Facts.
Then on Monday 23 September from 1-3pm at Stephen Hill Church, Peter Machan tells the tales of Charlie Peace and other Sheffield villains.
Crosspool Women’s Institute celebrated its first anniversary in March. In the most recent Crosspool Clarion, secretary Liz Manson reported on the first twelve months and looked ahead to what the future holds.
We’re delighted to have come this far. We are particularly pleased that we have maintained both evening and afternoon groups – apparently this is unique in the WI world! So far we have established several smaller interest groups which include singing, knitting and crochet, book and theatre.
We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all who have helped us along the way, either as a member, a visitor, as a customer at one of our fundraising events and local businesses who have donated prizes.
In particular we would like to say a special thank you to the Crosspool Clarion – your coverage of our activities, has encouraged local women, of all ages, to come and join us.
The events we have planned for the next few months include talks about diamonds from the CEO of Benz & Green and the life of Lady Jane Grey in June.
In July we have talks about Teenage Cancer Trust, and the work of WI in Rumania. Visitors always get a warm welcome!
We adopted Care in Crosspool as our local charity for 2012 and hope to raise further funds for other local charities this year. We would welcome suggestions from readers.
Christmas trees are going up in the precinct on Sunday
Three events mark the start of Christmas festivities in Crosspool this weekend.
On Saturday 1 December from 10am-2pm Crosspool WI hosts a Christmas Fayre in Lounge@Crosspool cafe. Pop along for craft stalls, refreshments, homemade cakes and their great Crosspool bake-off!
On Sunday morning the Christmas trees will be going up in the precinct above our local shops. So look out for them when you pass through next week.
And on Sunday afternoon from 1.30-3.30pm there’s a Christmas disco for children between 3-11 years at St Columba’s church hall. Father Christmas will bring a present for every child and refreshments and nibbles will be served.
