Church and Community Work

St Columba and Stephen Hill Churches are looking to appoint a part-time Church & Community Support Worker.

CDYST PLAYGROUND

The Crosspool and District Youth Sports Trust (C.D.Y.S.T) on Cold well Lane, is a non-profit making charitable trust with sporting and recreational facilities of a hall and outside grounds available for public hire to benefit the local community, .

The children’s playground at CDYST has a variety of regularly maintained apparatus for children to use safely.
Sadly after many years of use, one of the large climbing centres had reached the end of its life and was in need of being replaced.

Having to maintain and run this playground on a very tight budget, sufficient funds weren’t available to replace the climbing centre, so regrettably this popular and well used facility had to be closed.

Members of the “Royal Brunswick Lodge”, one of the local Freemasons Lodges at Tapton Hall, Shore Lane, became aware of the issue, through members families who use the playground.

After discussions with Dave Bolsover (CDYST Trustee Chair), the lodge were able to assist with a grant from the Yorkshire West Riding Freemasons Charity.

The grant was applied for just prior to Covid lockdown, consequently the process had to be put on hold. After many other delays the apparatus was finally installed, enabling the playground to be re-opened in September.

Freemasons from the Royal Brunswick Lodge were invited along to inspect the new equipment. They refused to try it out, but were delighted that they were given the opportunity to support the CDYST and the community in this way.

Snake Pass Closed

From today, October 4th, the Snake Pass will be closed to traffic for two weeks for roadworks.

Derbyshire County Council will be doing some resurfacing, fixing potholes, replacing some drains and clearing others, replacing some signs. Repainting road markings and carrying out some investigation work on one of the retaining walls. No traffic or bikes will be allowed through for safety reasons, although access will remain for residents and farmers

Derbyshire County Council apologise for the inconvenience,
Diversions are in place, directing drivers to take an alternative route via the A624, A6, A623, B6049, A6187, and A57.

The A57 Snake Pass is scheduled to reopen, Friday 15th October 2021.

During the closure, the Hulley’s X57 Bus will continue to run a reduced service between Sheffield and Manchester via the Woodhead pass, taking the B6105 at Crowden to Glossop, where it will resume its normal route to Manchester..  This temporary route will operate daily between the hours of 9am & 5pm.

Buses scheduled over the pass before 9am or after 5pm will use the normal route.

Safer Roads Petition

Having witnessed a life changing accident on Manchester Road, Crosspool resident Jo Graham was prompted to jump into action with a campaign to make ALL Crosspool Roads Safer.

Jo’s aim is to get as many people as possible to sign her Safer Roads Crosspool Sheffield Petition, requesting that the Sheffield Council work with the local community to make all Crosspool roads much safer.

Over the last two months there have been at least two people knocked down and injured on the stretch of Manchester Road between Sandygate Road and Tapton/King Edwards School. 
With the Kings Court residential home, a busy Tesco convenience store and schools being located in this vicinity, Jo is afraid that it can only be a matter of time before more people are injured on this congested stretch of Manchester Road.
