Well-known local faces from the worlds of sport and music are taking part in a charity fundraiser at Sandygate this afternoon, Sunday 23 March.
Chris Waddle will lead an all-stars team featuring ex-footballers David Hirst, John Sheridan, Carlton Palmer and David Holdsworth, plus Reverend and the Makers frontman Jon McClure.
The day is to raise money for homeless charity the Archer Project. Tickets are £5 and are available on the door. Kick off is at 2pm.
This pale, long-haired ginger cat has been found on Sandygate Road, near the golf course.
It was collected by the RSPCA today so please contact RSPCA Sheffield if the cat belongs to you or someone you know.
The Crosspool Community Award was set up in 2013 by Crosspool Forum to acknowledge commitment, accomplishment and achievement by individuals in the Crosspool neighbourhood.
Retired Lydgate Junior School headteacher Sue Havenhand was the first person to receive the award last year. She was presented with it for her contribution to education in the community. This includes 14 years spent as head of the school, where she was responsible for approximately 1,500 local children passing through. Prior to her time at Lydgate, she was also an outstanding teacher at Hallam School.
Sue was presented with a small memento to mark the occasion at 2013 Crosspool Festival’s Picnic in the Park.

The Crosspool Forum/Crosspool Festival committees needs your nominations by noon on Friday 25 April. They’ll go through the submissions and choose a winner. The location and time for the presentation of this year’s award hasn’t been decided yet.
Local police have asked Crosspool dog walkers to be aware of the sheep in one of the fields at the top of Hagg Lane.
In the latest area newsletter, officers explain that over the last month there have been several sheep worrying incidents in this area.

Manchester Road is now fully open to traffic travelling in both directions.
The road has been in various states of closure and repair since May 2012 due to serious subsistence.
Five new houses are being proposed for the Moor View Farm site, alongside restoration of the main farm buildings.
Jaguar Estates, the company behind the Moor View Farm development, has shared initial details of their plans. They intend to rescue the main old house and fully restore it. This will involve replacement of the rear extension with a similar one on two levels.
The developers propose to rebuild the outbuildings – which are unsafe and in poor order – along the same lines to maintain the farm feeling, and create another two barn-style dwellings on the top part of the site.
A new roadway is proposed down the right side of the existing house to serve five new 3/4 bedroomed houses across the rear of the site.
Details of the scheme will be worked up in the near future for a full submission in May. The planners won’t accept an application until the developers have refreshed the bat survey in May. This survey showed an absence of bats last September.
In the meantime, work starts on the main farmhouse in March.
Moor View Farm on Manchester Road is undergoing repairs after being sold to a developer last week.
Jaguar Estates have purchased the site and are currently working on restoring the farmhouse. Safety fencing has gone up to enable them to get on with repairs.
The buildings are said to be in quite a poor state, with a hole in the roof and a holes in the floors. At the moment the developer has said that it is their intention to repair the buildings and put them back into use as a house.
There is considerable local interest in the site, particularly regarding the preservation of the farmhouse. Crosspool Forum has asked through Crookes ward Councillor Geoff Smith that it is kept informed of any future developments for the site. We’ll share news on this as and when we hear anything.
The pair of empty shops in Crosspool shopping precinct on Sandygate Road are set to reopen in the coming weeks, with the former Co-op Travel shop now fitted out as Peppermint Salon.
We’ve also heard that the old World of Wine/Bargain Beers double unit could reopen as two businesses, a beer off licence and nail bar.
You are invited to come and leave your household waste in the Crosspool Community Skip for free on Saturday 5 April 2014. It will be in the car park of The Sportsman pub on Benty Lane from 8am and will be picked up promptly at 12:30pm 11.30am.
