Selborne Road safety: petition launched

A Crosspool resident has launched a petition to review the layout of Selborne Road following the fatal accident last month.

Organiser Carol Hanson said: “I have lived on Selborne Road for over 15 years and have never known such a volume of traffic. I am hoping to get some form of traffic calming measure following the tragic accident a few weeks ago. I shall be attending the Open Meeting on 28 July with fellow residents to put my case forward to the councillors etc.”

The petition can be found in many of our local shops, including Bamforths, The Post Office in Spar, GT News, Green Cross chemist, Alex Gage Optometrist and Philip James butcher.

Purse found at Summer Fayre

A young person’s purse was handed in at last Saturday’s busy Summer Fayre on Coldwell Lane.

If you have lost your purse and think it may be yours then please call 0114 266 3473, or contact the Crosspool Forum via crosspoolforum@fsmail.net giving a brief description and we’ll try to return it to its owner.

Also – if anyone has found a child’s pink rain mac that was lost at the Crosspool Summer Fayre on Saturday, please let us know.

Carver Fields under threat?

It’s our understanding that a decision has been taken to sell the Carver fields on Hagg Lane.

These fields have provided a healthy recreational facility for everyone for many years. If this proves to be the case, and the fields become a building site, this would be a significant loss to the community and to our heritage.

We’ll let you know if we hear more on this.

Residents campaign to save The Plough pub

The Plough, Sandygate Road
The Plough, Sandygate Road

Crosspool residents are fighting to save The Plough pub.

After the pub closed in April, Sainsbury’s  announced plans to turn it into a convenience store.

The Save the Plough group has been coordinating the campaign to keep the building as a pub and save the sporting heritage of Sandygate. Together with local councillors, they have launched a survey to gauge public opinion on the issue. They’re also raising money to support the campaign.

Ideas include turning the site into a multi-use community facility and a visitor centre for the world’s oldest football ground, which is opposite.

Some residents are also in support of the the idea of a convenience store opening in place of the pub. If you have views either way then consider making them known to Sainsbury’s, Sheffield Planning Committee, our local MP and your councillors:

Last year The Plough was listed as an asset of community value.
