Meet your local police in Crosspool on Wednesday 16 January

Local police officers will be offering advice and answering questions on Wednesday 16 January outside Crosspool shops.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be in Crosspool from 2–3pm. It’s your opportunity to meet some of the team, get community safety advice and discuss any issues that are relevant to you.

If you can’t get to the shops on Wednesday then you can also contact the South West SNT by telephoning 101.

Meanwhile, congratulations to local bobby Louise Atha who has won Community PC of the Year for 2012.

Toys belonging to two young girls were ruined by vandals yesterday afternoon in an incident on Carver Fields.

Crosspool mum Lucy Whittle Watkins was out with her three year-old and 20 month-old daughters. They temporarily left a tricycle and toy pram just inside one of the entrances to the fields while they went to sit on a bench.

They returned to find the tricycle ruined, with the saddle smashed, the guide pole snapped off and basket broken, leaving Lucy angry and her daughters very upset.

Lucy said: “I shouldn’t have left it unattended, although I’ve left things there before with no problem. I’ve a learned a sad lesson today.”

Safer Neighbourhood Team in Crosspool on Wednesday 29 August

Police officers will be offering advice and answering questions to Crosspudlians on Wednesday 29 August outside Spar.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be in Crosspool from 2–3pm. It’s your opportunity to meet some of the team and to get community safety advice, discuss any issues that are relevant to you or to get crime reduction information.

Representatives from the South West Community Assembly will also be there.

Meanwhile, the latest Crookes Safer Neighbourhood Area newsletter from the police highlights their efforts to combat thefts of pedal cycles and items from motor vehicles in the locality. They also flag up milk thefts from people’s doorsteps in the early hours – you can phone 101 to report any suspicious activity.

Police appeal for information regarding collision on Manchester Road, Rivelin

Local police are appealing for witnesses of an accident on Sunday afternoon:

On Sunday, 15 July, at approximately 3.05pm, a yellow BMW S1000 motorcycle driven by a 39-year-old man from Doncaster was travelling towards Sheffield City Centre along Manchester Road, Rivelin.

On approach to the waterworks, police believe that the driver of the motorcycle was in the process of overtaking several stationery vehicles when it collided with a blue Honda Jazz driven by a 64-year-old woman from Stannington that was completing a right turn manouvre into the entrance of the waterworks.

The rider of the motorcycle received serious injuries including the amputation of his left thumb.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information, is asked to contact the police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 749 of 15/07/2012.

Meanwhile, the latest SNT newsletter reports that a male was stopped in a white transit van who was collecting scrap in the Crosspool area. After checks, the male was reported on summons for no insurance and having no waste carriers licence.

Police statement about incident in Crosspool earlier today

South Yorkshire Police has issued the following statement about an incident in Crosspool on Saturday afternoon:

South Yorkshire Police arrested a Sheffield man in his 20s in Crosspool this afternoon as part of a pre-planned operation.

Nobody was injured as a result of the police operation that took place on Manchester Road around 4pm today.

Local officers conducted house-to-house visits to reassure local residents following their actions in the area.

If the police confirm any more details then we will update this website with the new information.

Police helicopter searches for offender over Sandygate

Did you see or hear the police helicopter SY99 flying over Crosspool this afternoon?

South Yorkshire Police Air Operations confirmed that around 1:40pm this afternoon it was searching for an offender following a burglary. A stolen car was left on a driveway. Enquiries are ongoing.

Last year it was announced that the South Yorkshire Police helicopter would be replaced with one shared by regional forces. However later this week the South Yorkshire Police Authority will consider plans that would mean SY99 would be retained and used during peak times.

No-one hurt in armed robbery at Co-op Travel in Crosspool

Three masked men held up Co-op Travel in Crosspool on Friday night.

At around 5.20pm the robbers, one of them carrying what is believed to be a shotgun, burst into the shop and threatened staff. Thankfully, no-one was hurt during the incident, but staff were left very shaken by their ordeal.

Witnesses say the robbers left the scene with currency of different denominations, leaving a trail of bank notes in the precinct.

They made their escape in a white Seat getaway car, which was later torched on Rivelin Park Drive.

Police cordoned off the area around the shop until around 8.30pm on Friday night. Detectives investigating the robbery want to hear from anyone who has any information, and urge them to come forward and contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 942 of 24 February 2012, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The incident in Crosspool follows a similar robbery in Bradway at another branch of Co-op Travel last December.
