Cairns Road: trees will be removed for the delayed resurfacing project
The resurfacing of Cairns Road for the Streets Ahead project has been delayed until the end of September so that some of the road’s trees can be removed.
It was due to take place the week commencing 14 July but inspections have revealed that a number of trees need to be removed because they are causing damage to the road.
This work has been rescheduled for the week commencing 29 September. Residents will be written to nearer the time to confirm dates.
Amey have confirmed that any trees removed from Cairns Road will be replaced.
The trustees of Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust are asking people to stop parking in their Coldwell Lane car park unless you are genuinely using the CDYST facilities or already have an arrangement to park there – for example Claremont Hospital.
Some residents have been using the private CDYST car park during road resurfacing works, which has been causing problems for existing users.
The trustees have warned that it is extremely dangerous for the mothers and pre-school children to have to park on a public road to get to the hall.
Watt Lane: to be resurfaced as part of the Streets Ahead project
Work to resurface roads, replace pavements and install new streetlights is due to start on Crosspool streets in the Sandygate district.
Roads in what contractor Amey is calling zone B45 include Watt Lane, Selborne Road, Cairns Road, Cardoness Road and Drive, Dransfield Road and Close and Barholm Road.
Two separate road closures are scheduled for the second half of July. Cars parked on closed roads may be towed away, with a fee due to have your vehicle released.
Residents living in affected roads should have received letters confirming the details – read a copy here (PDF, 71KB).
The spirit of the Tour de France arrived in Crosspool today as handmade bunting, an official flag and a yellow bike were installed in the precinct.
As well as red, white and blue bunting, Crosspool Forum volunteers have also hand-knitted mini Tour de France jerseys which have been draped on the streetlight near GT News.
An official yellow tour flag is hanging above the chemist and a bike sprayed with yellow paint can now be found at the foot of the tree outside Spar.
Streets Ahead improvements are finally due for completion in Tapton Hill
The remaining work on replacing street lights and resurfacing pavements in the Tapton Hill area is finally due to for completion at the end of June/early July, contractor Amey has announced.
Meanwhile, preparation work has started on some streets in and around Sandygate as the Streets Ahead project moves onto the next area of our neighbourhood, with weeds and grass being cleared along curbstones.
You’ll have the chance to find out more in Crosspool next week about Streets Ahead, the project to renew the roads, pavements and streetlights of Sheffield.
The Streets Ahead roadshow arrives in Crosspool at The Sportsman pub on Tuesday 13 May from 2-4pm and will then move on to The Florentine 5-7pm.
Resurfacing work is already underway in areas of Tapton Hill and work around Crosspool is scheduled to continue throughout 2014.
This online map allows you to search by postcode to find an approximate date for when the work will take place on your street.
The Friends of Lydgate Green are asking if anyone has any plants they could donate to help improve the green space.
Secretary Roger Burkinshaw explains: “We replanted Lydgate Green last summer but the beds are looking a bit sparse after losses from the very wet winter and more annoyingly from the theft of half a dozen rose bushes.
“Do you have any plants you could donate? For example, if you are tidying your garden and have any plants that have grown too large or you are splitting clumps of perennials etc, we would love to have them.”
If you can spare any plants then please let Roger know by emailing woodster.rog@gmail.com. The Friends of Lydgate Green will then plant them up for everyone to enjoy.
Lydgate Lane will close for two days at the end of the month for resurfacing.
The area around the Cross Lane and Ryegate Crescent junction will be closed from 7am on Monday 28 October until 6pm on Wednesday 30 October 2013.
Diversion routes will be signed. Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be available at all times.
Local residents will still have access throughout the work, although there will be no on-street parking during this time. Amey advise that vehicles parked on street may be towed away and you will need to pay a fee to have your car released.
Streets Ahead improvements have been delayed in Tapton Hill
Crosspool residents living on Tapton Hill are receiving notifications from Streets Ahead notifying them of delays to the improvements and new dates for when work will take place.
On Monday 5 August, work commenced a month later than planned on Vernon Terrace, Ryegate Road, Ryegate Crescent and Bosville Road. People living on these streets should have received a letter about this.
Lydgate Lane residents were expecting work to begin at night on 12 and 15 August, but this has been delayed and will instead take place Monday 19 to Friday 23 August 2013 between 7am and 7pm. Cars will be diverted, although access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be available at all times.
After a review of road conditions in the area, Cross Lane will now also be resurfaced. Residents will be informed by letter once a date is confirmed.
Underground cabling issues have meant that installation of new street lighting in Tapton Hill will start in November with a projected completion date of January. The heritage lights which are due to be installed in the Broomhill conservation area are on order. Pavements will be resurfaced as street lights are replaced.
