Magistrates in the Community Neighbourhood Watch meeting

To give a better understanding of court procedure and why magistrates come to the decisions on sentences that they do, the police and two magistrates plan to talk about Magistrates in the Community at an upcoming South West Sheffield Neighbourhood Watch Forum meeting.

The event is at Christ Church Fulwood church hall on Canterbury Avenue on Wednesday 13 April and is expected to run from 7-9pm. Refreshments will be available.

A number of attendees will be invited to be involved in some role play. So go along and get involved – or feel free just to turn up and witness proceedings.

Crosspool Spring clean: thanks for your help!

Enthusiastic young people join in Crosspool's Spring Clean
Enthusiastic young people join in Crosspool's Spring Clean

Crosspool folk sprang into action last Saturday to clean up our neighbourhood.

As part of Sheffield’s third Annual Spring Clean, a dozen or so local residents, both young and old met at 10am on Saturday outside Direct Travel on Sandygate Road.

After brief introductions, the group dispersed in small teams to various locations where there was litter to clear up.

Despite the wind and the rain, and having to deal with obstacles including parts of a discarded piano, everyone enjoyed the camaraderie of the morning and the satisfaction of what was achieved.

We hope to arrange another group clean up for some date in the future so keep your eye on this website and the Crosspool Clarion for details.

You don’t need any specialist cleaning skills, just a bit of enthusiasm!

Cleaning materials will be provided. So that we can ensure we have enough materials, please can you let Ian Hague know if you wish to be part of the group: telephone 0114 335 1674 or email crosspoolforum@fs.mail.net.

Slimming World campaign arrives in Crosspool

A new fitness campaign has been launched to accompany a new season of Slimming World classes in Crosspool.

Details are below. The local group meets at St. Columba’s church on Wednesday nights. For more information call Emma on 0114 233 5205 or 07941 062363.

Slimming World Crosspool

A campaign launches this week to get the people of Sheffield working together to tackle obesity in the Sheffield after a national survey revealed that people who are overweight often suffer humiliation and embarrassment and have low confidence and low self-esteem, all of which seriously affect their everyday lives.

Experts acknowledge that waist measurement, as well as weight, is an indicator of an individual’s health. With an ‘at risk’ waist measurement of more than 88cm (35in) for women and 102cm (40in) for men, results of the survey show that 45% per cent of people in South Yorkshire and the surrounding area are in danger of developing severe health problems.

The Let’s Beat Obesity Together in Sheffield campaign, run by Slimming World, aims to bring the whole community together to encourage and support each other to lose weight and make Sheffield, and principally Crosspool, a happier and healthier place to live.

Anyone who joins their local Slimming World group between 28 February and 12 March and purchases a 12-week Countdown to take part in the Let’s Beat Obesity Together challenge will get FREE membership and two weeks free attendance in a Pay for 10 get 2 weeks free offer – representing a total saving of £19.90.

As part of the campaign, being run especially to benefit the Crosspool community, members will also have the opportunity to be sponsored to lose their weight, and all the proceeds will go to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

For more information about Let’s Beat Obesity Together or the sponsored Slimathon call Emma on 0114 233 5205 or visit www.slimmingworld.com.
