An Introduction to the Tablet course starts on Friday 25 October

A new course in Crosspool will give an introduction to using a tablet, such as the iPad. It has been designed to help people get the most from this increasingly popular technology.

The course lasts five weeks, starting 10am on Friday 18 25 October at the Scout Hall on Benty Lane, Crosspool. Each session is two hours long.

It costs £35 or £10 for people in receipt of certain benefits. iPads are provided, but you can also bring your own tablet.

Meeting to discuss future of Broomhill library

Broomhill Forum is to hold a public meeting at 10.30am on Saturday 9 November at the Beacon Methodist Church, Fulwood Road, Broomhill, to discuss the future of Broomhill library and give people the chance to have their say.

The council have announced that 12 libraries across Sheffield are facing closure as part of planned budget cuts. Residents of Broomhill and Crosspool have also started an online petition to keep Broomhill library open.

Loxley Silver Band will play Last Night at the Proms celebration on Saturday 21 September to celebrate 100 years of Tapton Hill Church in its present building.

Last Night of the Proms traditionally includes patriotic numbers such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule, Britannia! and Jerusalem.

The event at the church starts at 7.30pm and tickets, which include refreshments, are available for £6 from 07971 408809 or 0114 230 8191.

Crosspool WI subscription deal for new members

Crosspool Women’s Institute is open looking for new members.

Now is a good time to sign up, as you can currently get a subscription of 15 months for the price of 12 for October onwards.

September’s first meeting takes place tonight, Monday 16 September from 7-9pm at St Columba’s Church with a talk by Gill Upham, titled Homeopathy: the Facts.

Then on Monday 23 September from 1-3pm at Stephen Hill Church, Peter Machan tells the tales of Charlie Peace and other Sheffield villains.

The King’s Head pub reunion, 2 November 2013

Did you ever used to visit The King’s Head pub in Crosspool before it was demolished?

On Saturday 2 November, a get together is being organised for anyone who used to be a regular at the pub in the 70s, 80s or 90s.

Go along to the Crosspool Tavern from 8pm to join in the reunion and meet old friends, share memories and have a laugh.

Sandygate will host a race night on Saturday 24 August 2013

Hallam FC are hosting a race night at Sandygate on Saturday 24 August to raise funds for the club.

Admission is £2 and includes a race card and entry to the raffle. Horses will be on sale for £2 and winner gets £10 plus the normal betting on each race.

Doors are 7.30pm with the first race around 8.15pm. Nibbles will be provided and there’ll be music between races and at the interval.

Crosspool Festival raises £1,300 – plus, watch the Crosspool Summer Fayre video

The Crosspool Festival committee are pleased to announce that this year’s festival raised £1,300 for Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre and the 36th Sheffield Scout Group based on Benty Lane.
