Sheffield’s Abbeydale Brewery is a featured brewery at Thursday’s Meet the Brewer night at The Sportsman in Crosspool, one of a series of fundraising events this week.
Other brewers that you’ll be able to chat to about their beer at the event include Black Sheep, Timothy Taylor’s and Marston’s.
For £5 you get two pints of your choosing and pie and peas supper. The event starts at 7pm and all proceeds go to Crosspool Forum.

Crosspool Open Gardens is a chance for you to explore some of the wonderful gardens in our community, get to know your neighbours over a cuppa and cake and raise some money for charity.
Tickets for this year’s event on Saturday 28 June are on sale at Lounge@Crosspool all week and at Crosspool Pets on the day. They cost £4 – children go free.
There are lots of new gardens to explore this year. Refreshments available in nearly all the gardens including Holly Hagg.
Also be aware that some roads may be closed to cars for resurfacing such as Sandygate Park Road on the day, so please park at the top or the bottom and walk to the gardens there.

As of today, you will need to pay to park in Crosspool Taven car park.
It costs £1 for a maximum stay of two hours. You’ll receive a £1 refund when you place your first order in the pub.
A sign explains: “For the security and convenience of our customers, it is intended to operate this car park on a pay and display basis. This change is to improve the availability of car park spaces for customers.”
A family-run farm shop relaunches in Rivelin valley this weekend, offering meat from their own farm and a range of Sheffield-sourced produce.
The Duck House is based at Coppice House Farm and was previously Coppice House Farm Shop. New owners Tom and Jess Ducker are no strangers to the business, with Tom’s father and grandfather both once responsible for running the old shop. Jess previously owned Gerty’s Pork and was previously named a Sheffield food hero.
Tom and Jess explained: “We’re focused on quality local produce, that’s why all the meat we sell is straight from our own farm and butchered on site to give you the freshest and finest produce.

“We’re keen to support other local businesses therefore all the other great products you’ll see at The Duck House are sourced from Sheffield – or the nearest we can get.”
“With our on site butcher Frank, if you want a specific cut of meat to try that new recipe we can do it for you right then and there.”
The Duck House farm shop opened with a soft launch last weekend and and will have its official opening over the coming weekend (12-13 April 2014).
Opening times are Thursday-Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 10am-3pm.
Crosspool’s Michelin Guide-recognised restaurant Artisan has closed its doors after 20 years of trading.
After being put up for sale in September, owners BrewKitchen have now decided to sell in the hope that a new team will take it on.
Artisan was previously known as Thyme and Smith’s. The upstairs area was also reinvented under different themes including fish restaurant Catch and budget eatery Canteen.
On the Artisan website Richard Smith from BrewKitchen said: “It is with regret, and mixed emotions, that after 20 years of trading we have decided to close.
“It has been a great business that has been the catalyst for real success. From the awards and accolades I achieved in the early years to the exceptional level of trading – I was full for 5 years every night at Smith’s – to the friendships with staff and customers alike that has been truly rewarding and still continue. The opportunity it gave me to progress on to some great other businesses like Thyme Cafe, the Cricket Inn and more recently Graze Inn, and my relationship with Thornbridge Brewery.
“The site is brilliant for a new ownership team. It’s in a great location with a fantastic kitchen, a brilliant feel and the potential for great trade with passion and commitment.”
The closure leaves two Italian restaurants in and around the precinct, along with Crosspool Tavern carvery, The Sportsman pub, Crosspool Fish Bar and Dynasty takeaway.
All existing Artisan bookings will be honoured at The Beauchief.
