2022 Well Dressing
The festival kicks off Friday 24th June at 6.15pm, with the Stephen Hill Church, Beavers & Cubs Flag parade along Benty Lane. The parade will arrive at 6.30pm for the Well Dressing dedication service on the grass verge at the junction of Selborne Road and Watt Lane.
Supporting the RNLI Filey Lifeboat & Sheffield Young Carers, the Sheffield Folk Chorale will be in concert at 7.30pm in Stephen Hill Church. To be sure of a ticket, please contact Bob Tele: 230 3207 or Roger Tele: 230 6194, suggested minimum Donation £6.
Art, Craft & Photography exhibitors, this is the last week for handing in your entries for the Crosspool Festival exhibition/competition. There are two categories for each: – under 16yrs & over 16yrs. Enter up to two creations in one or more of the Art, Craft & Photography sections. You have until this Friday 24th June to drop off your entries at Cocker & Carr Estate Agents.
Cake Baking and Cup Cake Decorating, entries can be handed in at St Columba’s Church on Tuesday 28th June from 6pm to 7 pm or on Wednesday 29th June from 9am to 10am. Cake Baking has two categories: – under 16yrs & over 16yrs. Cup Cake decorating has two categories:- Under-fives & Five to eleven yrs.
As part of their contribution to the Crosspool Festival, the Tapton Hill Congregational Church will be showing two short Buster Keaton films, on Tuesday, June 28th at 7pm
Jonny Best, a lively piano player who regularly plays for the Yorkshire Silent Film Festival, will accompany these very funny and popular silent films. Remember the days when we used to talk and laugh with our best friends? Pop along to the Tapton Church for a good night out with new & old friends. Popcorn will be available. All donations will benefit the Festival charities.
Preparations are now well under way for the 2022 Crosspool Well Dressing.
A dedicated group of local residents will be gathering this Monday morning @ 10.00am to design and build the Crosspool Well Dressing panels. If you would like to join in to have a go at petaling, no experience needed. Anyone wanting to help out will be made very welcome.
If you happen to have any BLUE HYDRANGEA in bloom and would like to donate the flower/petals, this would be very much appreciated.
To mark the start of this year’s Crosspool Festival celebrations, the decorated Well Dressing panels, generously sponsored by “Layers Flooring”, will be erected on the grass verge at the corner of Watt Lane and Sandgate Road on 24th June, this will be followed by a flag parade along Benty Lane 6.15pm and a service of dedication at 6.30pm.
Yippee! preparations for the Crosspool Scarecrow competition are in full swing. Don’t leave it too late to collect, and complete, an entry form from either the Nest Café or Hudson’s Kitchen. The £4 entry fee will go to the “Friends of Lydgate Association” at Lydgate School
This year, to give plenty of scope for entrants to let their imaginations run wild, the popular annual Crosspool Scarecrow festival has a Royal theme with designs based on historical moments and occasions from the past 70yrs of the Queen’s reign. We hope local residents will get creative and have some fun with the theme and create some amusing scarecrows.

Judging for the best scarecrows will take place during the Crosspool festival week and the winners will be announced at the Crosspool Summer Fayre, Saturday 2nd July. You can now start submitting your entries for the Festival Art, Craft & Photography sections of the exhibition and competition. For the Cake Baking and Cupcake Decorating Competition/Exhibition, you can hand in your entries at St Columba’s Church between 6-7 pm on Tuesday 28th June or on Wednesday 29th June from 9-10am. Cake baking has two categories for each: – Under 16yrs and Over 16yrs.
For the Cupcake Decorating, there are two additional categories:- Under- 5yrs and 5yrs to 11yrs.

In this, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year don’t miss the chance to showcase your creativity. Enter the Crosspool Festival Art, Craft, Photography, Cake Baking, and Cup Cake Decorating Competitions.
Anyone who lives works, or goes to school in the Crosspool area can enter, All exhibited creations will have the chance of winning a prize, sponsored by the Crosspool Estate Agent Cocker & Carr.
There is no theme to follow, just show us what you can create. You can enter as many of the categories as you want, but no more than two entries per category.
All competition entries will be displayed and judged at St Columba’s Church on Wednesday 29th June, after which some of the entries in the art, craft, and photography categories will go to be displayed in Cocker & Carr’s window.
How to enter:
Cup Cake Decorating Under-fives & five to eleven years can enter a maximum of two cupcakes. They don’t have to make the cupcakes, just decorate them using their imagination. Cake baking Under 16s & everyone over 16 years; you can submit up to two cakes that you have made. Hand both cupcakes & cakes in with a card that gives details of Name, Age, an email address, and phone number (that of parents or guardians for children) at St Columba’s Church on Tuesday 28th June, 6 -7 pm or Wednesday 29th June, 9-10 am
Art and Craft Creations Under 16s & everyone over 16 years. you can submit up to two creations that you have made. Photography Under 16s & everyone over 16 years: you can submit a maximum of two images in either A5 or A4. On the back print, a caption so the judges can clearly understand your description of what is happening in the photo, Name; Age; Category, and your contact email and phone number. Drop off your entries at the Crosspool Estate Agents Cocker & Carr, from Wednesday, June 1st. The closing date is midday on Friday 24th June.

Any resident can enter a homemade Scarecrow to display in a front garden or other location which is open to public view, but not in a public space
Making a scarecrow is relatively easy and affordable. It is something that families can take part in safely. The appearance of scarecrows in your front garden should create an element of surprise and a talking point for everyone to enjoy during their daily exercise.
When making your scarecrow please be sure not to put anything in or on it that could fall off and become harmful to animals and wildlife habitats.
Scarecrows to be displayed for judging during the Crosspool Festival Week, Friday 24th June and Saturday 2nd July.
Thanks to the generosity of local businesses there are worthwhile Prizes up for grabs. The winner and two runners-up will be announced on Saturday afternoon July 2nd at the Crosspool Summer Fayre, Crosspool & District Youth Sports Trust, Hall/Field; Coldwell Lane, Crosspool.
