Sheffield Local Plan Drop-in Session – Southwest
Sheffield Local Plan Drop-in Session is being held in the Southwest area on Tuesday 10th June between 4pm and 8pm.
The session is being hosted by Planning Service, with support from the SW LAC Team. The venue is Bents Green Methodist Church, Junction of Ringinglow Road and Knowle Lane, Sheffield, S11 7PU.
There will be maps and information for attendees to look at, officers will explain the plans, and they will answer questions.

Council organised youth club meeting weekly in Crosspool
New Youth Club starts in Crosspool
Sheffield City Council have organised a youth club in Crosspool, which is meeting at the Scout Hut (Hall) on Benty Lane every Tuesday from 5-7pm.
This follows the launch of a weekly youth club in Crookes’ Wesley Hall, meeting on Wednesdays.
The new Crosspool youth club is in addition to the Crookes youth provision.
The youth club is free and open to all young people aged between 12 and 17 years old. Activities are decided co-created with the attendees, but there are currently a PlayStation 5, boardgames, arts and craft activities, as well as free refreshments and food. The youth club will also offer free trips in holiday time.
Crookes and Crosspool Councillor Minesh Parekh said:
“I’m really pleased that the council now has a second weekly youth club meeting in the Crookes and Crosspool ward.
“These services are so important for our young people, and I’m glad that the council has been able to start rebuilding these service following national government cuts.”

Hallam Chase 2025
This Tuesday, 27th May, all eyes will be on Crosspool for the 2025 Hallam Chase.
At the newly adjusted start time of 7:30pm, runners will set off from the Hallam Football/Cricket Club’s Sandygate ground. The challenging route takes them down Den Bank, through the Rivelin Valley, and up to Stannington Church, before retracing the same path back. Covering 3¼ miles with 800 feet of climb, the race promises a true test of endurance.
Organised by Hallamshire Harriers and hosted by the Hallam Cricket Club, the Hallam Chase holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous fell race in the world, with records dating back to 1862. Though it has occasionally been paused due to world wars, diseases, and the COVID-19 pandemic, it is estimated to have been run around 150 times by 2024. Open to male and female runners who are members of a South Yorkshire running club, the event draws 50 to 80 participants each year. Notably, there is no entry on the day.
While originally a 10-mile loop, the race has evolved to a 3.25-mile out-and-back course between the Hallam Cricket Ground and Stannington Church. With its steep climbs and grassy paths, it remains a demanding challenge, suitable only for runners aged 18 and older.
The event follows a handicap system, where slower runners start first, followed by faster competitors, leading to a thrilling finale with multiple runners crossing the finish line together. A dedicated team of around 40 volunteers—many former runners themselves—help make the race possible, providing crucial support to ensure the event’s continued success and fostering the close-knit Hallam Chase community.

Yorkshire Storm Alliance Survey
Tomorrow Tuesday 20th May, Yorkshire Water will begin 3 days of initial investigation work on an area of Carver Fields, to see if the site would be suitable for one of their upcoming projects as part of the Yorkshire Storm Alliance, starting with a non-intrusive drone survey carried out on their behalf by UVA. The Yorkshire storm alliance is an initiative new partnership of water industry experts working together to help improve the counties rivers by reducing the use of storm overflows. During this time, they’ll also be carrying out a ground penetration radar (GPR) survey with our Partners Ward and Burke.
Their project managers will be on-site at Carver fields; Tuesday 20th May and Thursday 22nd between 9am and 11am to answer any question you may have about the survey or proposed work. Crosspool Festival Scarecrow Competition
The scarecrow competition is one of the most anticipated and beloved events of the Crosspool Festival, bringing creativity, community spirit, and a touch of fun to the celebrations.
Whether you’re a seasoned scarecrow maker or trying it for the first time, we can’t wait to see your imaginative creation!
Before you get started, please take a moment to review the important information below. Once you’ve read everything, kindly complete your details on an entry form—either download one or collect one from the “Crosspool Pet Supplies”.
This will enable us to register your entry and ensure you have everything you need to take part. The competition is open to anyone in the Crosspool area.
Display dates: Scarecrows need to be in place for the duration of the festival Friday the 27th of June to Sunday the 6th of July and clearly visible from the Driveway or Pavement outside your home. The scarecrows will be judged during this time.
Thanks to local businesses there are worthwhile prizes up for grabs.
The winner and two runners-up will be announced at the Crosspool Summer Fayre, “SDYST” Coldwell Lane on Saturday 5th July.
Theme: The theme for this year’s competition is ‘On the farm’. You are welcome to create anything you like based upon this theme.
Payment: Please pay £4 (cash) to the Crosspool Pet Supplies on Sandygate Road.
All proceeds will go to the Crosspool Festival Charities.
When making your scarecrow please be sure not to put anything in or on it that could fall off and become harmful to animals and wildlife habitats.
