Stage three of the government road map went ahead as planned at midnight, with up to six people or two different households now allowed to meet indoors. Hugs and other physical contact between ‘close friends and family’ are now permitted for the first time since Covid-19 restrictions began.
Pubs and restaurants can now welcome customers back indoors, although anyone visiting a pub must remain seated to order, eat and drink. The one-metre (3ft) rule remains in place in public settings such as pubs, shops and restaurants. You should wear a face mask when walking around these places.
Groups of up to 30 people outside are allowed, but bigger groups are illegal.

Visitors flock to see the new ‘Hen House’ refurb at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
Whirlow Hall Farm was delighted to announce the opening of their newly refurbished Hen House this weekend. The project funded by local online educational publishing house, Twinkl enhances the immersive experience for visitors and the students the Trust supports. With a new 80-seater café opening in June, the Hen House refurb marks the next phase of growth for the charity, encouraging more visitors to the much-loved local spot.
The refurbished Hen House will enhance the learning delivery for the many vulnerable youngsters the charity works with but will provide the local community with opportunities to meet farm animals up close and personal, such as Horacio, the farms hand reared orphaned calf.

On Saturday 24th April, in line with all current Covid restrictions, the Hen House was officially opened by Jonathan and Susie Seaton, Co-founders of Twinkl

Whirlow Hall Farm Trust plays a vital role in the city’s alternative provision network supporting children and young people facing a complex combination of difficulties which can include a range of mental health conditions.

After government lockdown rules were relaxed on April 12th all non-essential retail shops, hair and nail salons, along with outdoor restaurants for table service, reopened in Crosspool. The Sportsman and Crosspool Tavern are planning to reopen for outdoor table service on Thursday April 29th.
The pandemic lockdown has been difficult and damaging for local shops and businesses. To help them return to as near to normal as quickly as possible, it’s important that we continue to take a cautious approach. Social distancing and Face covering are still required for shops until Jun 21, the earliest point at which the country could return fully to normal living.

In the morning they offer panini with our Sicilian sausage or panino caprese or homemade burgers and sandwiches vegetarian and gluten free as well. They do homemade stuffed Focaccia Bread and pizza, homemade cake and Sicilian sweets as cannoli filled with ricotta cheese or cassata siciliana and other delicious treats stuffed with nutella. They will probably add more sweets, and of course they do coffee. They also sell typical homemade Sicilian products; sausage, salame and pancetta.

‘A Year in Crosspool’, is the theme for this year’s Photography Competition.
We anticipate people will want to submit images that have meaning to them in relation to the last year. Perhaps it will reflect some of the hardships and challenges, or some of the more uplifting aspects of human nature and life in Crosspool. It could even be something to illustrate how you, or someone you know, has developed personally, perhaps learning a new skill or activity.
You can submit any image you like (within the bounds of decency!) but remember, the photo should make an impact and tell a story.

The election on Thursday May 6th 2021 was originally meant to have taken place in May 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.
