Thanks for all your Christmas trees

Shredding Christmas trees
Shredding Christmas trees

Andrew Fisher and his crew of volunteers worked tirelessly for an hour and half shredding Christmas trees this afternoon to raise funds for the Crosspool Forum.

Over 120 trees were left by residents outside Direct Travel, with quite a number being over 8ft tall.

Money raised will help provide hanging baskets and floral displays in the Crosspool precinct.

On behalf of all who have and will benefit from their kindness, a big big thank you to Andrew (Complete Tree Solutions) and to Paul at (Direct Travel) for the use of the car park.

Please reciprocate their kindness by supporting these local services.

Last chance to get 2015 Crosspool calendar

2015 Crosspool calendar
The 2015 Crosspool calendar has been a big success and is now on its third print run

To avoid disappointment Crosspool residents are advised to purchase the Crosspool Calendar as soon as possible as stocks are rapidly running low and no
further copies will be available.

The calenders are on sale now for £4 in Crosspool Pets and Enhance hairdresser.

Crosspool Forum would like to thank everyone who submitted photographs for the photograph competition for entry within this years calendar.

Special congratulations go to Hilda Hinchcliffe for submitting the winning photograph which can be seen on the front of the publication and shows a white Crosspool as
experienced by the whole community since boxing day.

Money raised will help Crosspool Forum funds for local events and improvements to our neighbourhood.

First big snowfall of the winter in Crosspool

Darwin Lane in the Boxing day snow, 2014

Up to 16cm of snow fell on Crosspool on Boxing day evening, causing delays for drivers and the cancellation of the 51 bus service.

Traffic was moving slowly on roads all over Sheffield as the snow settled into the evening with delays on major roads and some minor roads blocked.

One journey from Crosspool to Millhouses reportedly took two hours. Some drivers abandoned their cars, deciding instead to continue their journey on foot.

As of 8am this morning First announced that the 51 bus service was suspended due to the conditions. It was running again by 4pm.

Many families took advantage of the holiday snow and ventured out for sledging, snowmen and snowball fights.

Here’s a selection of photos from Twitter and some taken this morning.

Do you recognise this cat?

Some sad news: the body of a dead ginger and white cat has been found this morning on the side of Lydgate Lane next to the corner of Lydgate Hall Crescent.

It has been taken it to a house for safe keeping. If you think it might be yours then please call the person who found it on 0114 266 5492.

Update 27 December: we think the cat might be the same one as in this photo.

Carols on Dransfield Road

Residents of Dransfield Road celebrated the night before Christmas with carols on the street accompanied by brass musical instruments.

It’s the third year running that people living on the road have got together on Christmas eve to sing carols, drink mulled wine and eat mince pies. Despite a couple of rain showers, over 60 people joined in.

Happy Christmas to all in Crosspool and here’s to a good 2015 for our community.

Residents urged to be vigilant after reports of Crosspool burglaries

Volunteers from a local neighbourhood watch scheme are warning Crosspool residents to be extra vigilant after a spate of break-ins over the last few days.

There were reports of burglaries on Den Bank Close and others in the Stephen Hill area, all taking place between 1pm and 3pm.

Dransfield Road Neighbourhood Watch is suggesting residents check their homes and vehicles are secure and work with their neighbours to stay safe.

If you see anything suspicious, call 101. If you see a crime taking place, call 999.
