Thanks to everyone who brought their Christmas tree for recycling on Sunday.

Over 175 trees were shredded. They’ll be used to create a path on Hagg Copse and for biofuel.

Money raised from your generous contributions will help provide planters for the precinct, trees and go towards paying for a new bench.

On behalf of all who have and will benefit from their kindness, a big big thank you to Andrew (Complete Tree Solutions) and to Paul at (Direct Travel) for the use of the car park. Please reciprocate their kindness by supporting these local services.

Crosspool Hardware shop shuts it doors

Crosspool Hardware
Crosspool Hardware

At 2pm this afternoon Crosspool Hardware closed for good.

The shop’s stock had been on sale at a reduced rate over the last couple of weeks and trading finally ceased earlier today.

The owners of the business tried to sell it as a going concern but weren’t able to. They’re now moving away from the area.

The shop will undoubtedly be missed by local residents. Its closure leaves another empty unit in the precinct, with the former Aligarh restaurant still standing empty since it shut 12 months ago.

Residents campaign to save The Plough pub

Crosspool residents are fighting to save The Plough pub.

After the pub closed in April, Sainsbury’s  announced plans to turn it into a convenience store.

The Save the Plough group has been coordinating the campaign to keep the building as a pub and save the sporting heritage of Sandygate. Together with local councillors, they have launched a survey to gauge public opinion on the issue. They’re also raising money to support the campaign.

Ideas include turning the site into a multi-use community facility and a visitor centre for the world’s oldest football ground, which is opposite.

Some residents are also in support of the the idea of a convenience store opening in place of the pub. If you have views either way then consider making them known to Sainsbury’s, Sheffield Planning Committee, our local MP and your councillors:

Last year The Plough was listed as an asset of community value.

Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s is to submit a planning application to turn The Plough pub on Sandygate Road into a convenience store.

The people running The Plough, which is opposite the oldest football ground in the world, called last orders in April.

There had been speculation over the future of the pub for many months. Regulars launched a Save the Plough Facebook campaign and it was registered as an asset of community value, with the hope that a community ownership model could be explored.

Sainsbury’s are now leasing the property from Enterprise Inns and will submit planning applications to Sheffield City Council in the coming weeks to adapt the building.

We’ll post links to them as soon as we see it on the council website.
