Meet the volunteers and visit the nature corner~ Discover the fascinating wildlife, see some mini-beasts, do a nature quiz or nature hunt and find out how you can get involved in helping to conserve the valley. Discover the history and heritage, including tours to the world-famous “Mousehole Forge”. Bring your memories of Rivelin! Art in the park: see artwork by and find out about the 1920s Rivelin Valley Artists’ colony and 19th-century artist William Lowe. Poetry ‘open mic’ led by local poets: read your own or another favourite poem during a walk by the river.
Over 70 wonderful exhibits from very talented Crosspool folk were on display last Thursday at St. Columba Church. The four judges were impressed with the range and quality of entries. There was also a display by Mavis Roadhouse on using silk, a very complicated and delicate skill. The winners each received a certificate and a cash prize sponsored by Crosspool Estate Agents, Cocker & Carr.
The winners were: Craft Sandra Bousted for her hand made journal made from recycled materials. Art under 16s: an exceptional and brilliant portrait drawing by Neha Chonkar. Art adults: Rosalie Hoyland ‘smoke scene, sparks and soot’. Photography under 16s: Kai Haste-Wain’s image of a resting bee. Photography adults: Louise Cousins for her picture of Hallam FC players celebrating winning the league in the snow! Cake Baking under 16s: Thomas Hague Adults: Ken Rutter.

Cake Baking has two categories: – under 16yrs & over 16yrs. Cup Cake decorating has two categories:- Under-fives & Five to eleven yrs.

For the Cupcake Decorating, there are two additional categories:- Under- 5yrs and 5yrs to 11yrs.

Art Sale – Sunday 12th June – Hallam Community Hall
This sale is an opportunity for the artist to have a second chance to show work and for customers to have an opportunity to enjoy another look and maybe grab a bargain.
All work has been created by members of the Hallam art group which meets weekly at the Hallam community hall and exhibits annually in October in the same hall and also in May at the botanical gardens classroom sale.
In this, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year don’t miss the chance to showcase your creativity. Enter the Crosspool Festival Art, Craft, Photography, Cake Baking, and Cup Cake Decorating Competitions.
Anyone who lives works, or goes to school in the Crosspool area can enter, All exhibited creations will have the chance of winning a prize, sponsored by the Crosspool Estate Agent Cocker & Carr.
There is no theme to follow, just show us what you can create. You can enter as many of the categories as you want, but no more than two entries per category.
All competition entries will be displayed and judged at St Columba’s Church on Wednesday 29th June, after which some of the entries in the art, craft, and photography categories will go to be displayed in Cocker & Carr’s window.
How to enter:
Cup Cake Decorating Under-fives & five to eleven years can enter a maximum of two cupcakes. They don’t have to make the cupcakes, just decorate them using their imagination. Cake baking Under 16s & everyone over 16 years; you can submit up to two cakes that you have made. Hand both cupcakes & cakes in with a card that gives details of Name, Age, an email address, and phone number (that of parents or guardians for children) at St Columba’s Church on Tuesday 28th June, 6 -7 pm or Wednesday 29th June, 9-10 am
Art and Craft Creations Under 16s & everyone over 16 years. you can submit up to two creations that you have made. Photography Under 16s & everyone over 16 years: you can submit a maximum of two images in either A5 or A4. On the back print, a caption so the judges can clearly understand your description of what is happening in the photo, Name; Age; Category, and your contact email and phone number. Drop off your entries at the Crosspool Estate Agents Cocker & Carr, from Wednesday, June 1st. The closing date is midday on Friday 24th June.
