Deputy PM Nick Clegg at Crosspool street market today
Sheffield Hallam MP and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg was in Crosspool today with his family on a visit the Selborne Road street market.
We spent a few minutes asking him about the street market, how often he is up in his constituency and his thoughts on some possible opponents at the 2015 general election.
Overall, the street market was a big success with stalls selling food, cakes, plants, crafts, jewellery, clothes and books. There was also music and dance from local schools and groups.

Local residents gathered this evening in the midsummer wind and sun to celebrate the unveiling of Crosspool’s new well dressing.
Frances Eccleston dedicates Crosspool well dressing
Festival chair and St. Columba’s priest-in-charge Frances Eccleston led the short dedication outside Crosspool Tavern.
This year’s well dressing celebrates the centenary of the bus service through Crosspool. 1913 saw the introduction of the first omnibus to carry passengers in Sheffield. It linked the tram terminus at Broomhill to Lodge Moor and the countryside.
The old fashioned term ‘omnibus’ is derived from Latin and literally means for all, to everywhere. This was presumably because for the first time a public service vehicle could travel on any road and was not restricted by tram lines.
The well dressing was created by volunteers
Crosspool well dressing has been created by local volunteers and the materials provided by fund raising events and donations.
The dedication of the well dressing will be followed by a week of events in Crosspool celebrating the life of our community.
Thanks go to Valleyside Garden Centre and Ronaldo’s Hairdressing for their support in creating the well and Rivelin Valley Conservation Group Task Team for erecting the board.
Live ceilidh band Fine Fettle will play at the family barn dance on Saturday 6 July at St Columba’s church hall.
You can pick up tickets from Lounge@Crosspool or by calling 0114 267 0006 – adults £6, children under 16 £3.50. The price of your ticket includes a hot meal. Bring your own drinks, glasses provided.
Final preparations are underway for Crosspool’s annual Selborne Road street market on Sunday 30 June.
The event is your opportunity to buy local food, cakes, plants, crafts, jewellery, clothes and books and also enjoy music and dance from local schools and groups. Many of our local shops will also open up for the day.
During the market, Crosspool Art Group will be exhibiting in the garden at 55 Selborne Road. Teas will also be available.
And at this year’s market, Crosspool-based entrepreneur Nick Duggan of Sandygate Park Road will be launching his own range of t-shirts featuring Sheffield street names. The collection includes Carsick Hill Road, Mushroom Lane, Button Hill, Freedom Road and Commonside.
We’re pleased to confirm some details about Crosspool Summer Fayre, one of the highlights of our annual summer festival.
This year’s fayre takes place from 2pm on Saturday 6 July at CDYST on Coldwell Lane, so do put the date in your diary. A range of activities are being planned for the afternoon, including:

The work started this weekend and is expected to go on until Tuesday 18 June – although sometimes planned maintenance like this can take less time than estimated.
