Crosspool families are invited to the Out Cow Molly bonfire from 2:30pm on Saturday at Cliffe House Farm in Dungworth.
The free event includes a fire engine which will be giving rides all afternoon to raise money for the fire museum, a barbecue serving Yorkshire highland beef burgers, hot drinks, a Bradfield Brewery bar and of course a big bonfire which will be lit at 5pm.
Cliffe House Farm was originally a dairy farm dating back to 1947. With the price of milk falling, in 2007 the family decided to diversify into dairy ice cream and Our Cow Molly was born.
Our Cow Molly currently supplies its excellent range of ice cream to outlets including Bamforth’s in Crosspool, The Three Merry Lads pub in Lodge Moor and Cream coffee shop in Broomhill.
At today’s West and North Planning Committee meeting in the town hall, planning application 10/02657/FUL to enlarge the premises currently occupied by Motor World on Lydgate Lane was rejected by a majority of five votes to three with one abstension.
The rejection was primarily on the grounds 0f parking and access.
An amendment to the original plans was submitted prior to the meeting and indications are that the developers will lodge an appeal in due course.
For at least the last 24 hours, a run of street lights have been out on the bottom part of Manchester Road between Broomhill and the Shore Lane junction.
This has resulted in almost pitch black conditions for pedestrians as soon as darkness falls around 5pm. It is not known whether the problems have been caused by the recent works taking place along various points on Manchester Road.
Street Force has been alerted to the problem. Until it is resolved, pedestrians and drivers are advised to take extra care.
Crosspool residents will be able to park in town for free in the run up to Christmas.
From 27 November until 25 December shoppers will be able to park for free in allocated Sheffield City Council car parks and on street parking bays in town from 9am on Saturdays and Sundays and from 3pm on Wednesdays.
The scheme will also include free parking from 9am on Christmas eve.
Close enough to the city centre but with easy access to the countryside – that’s how the Sheffield Telegraph has described Crosspool, Fulwood, Ranmoor and Lodge Moor in it’s latest area focus advertising feature.
Artisan and Catch restaurants, Bamforth’s fruit and vegetable shop and Craft Angels are all included in the piece, which appears highlights only the businesses that have bought an advert on the same page of the newspaper.
Crosspool restaurant Artisan is launching a new Sunday lunch time menu from today.
“We want people to ask for more bread, potatoes, vegetables, yorkies and gravy, just like at home,” says chef patron Richard Smith in this week’s Sheffield Telegraph.
For £22.50 you get three courses plus bread, coffee and chocolates. A la carte is also available.

Crosspool shops and business correct waste-disposal project. All businesses must have special arrangements for the removal of their non-domestic waste, and ensure the rear of their property is kept clean and tidy, as well as the front.
Scrap collecting vehicles – in four days Andrew has stopped and searched 6 of these. Householders (arranging for eg fridges to be removed) must ensure the company they deal with has the correct licence to do this work – or will be held liable of the item is then fly-tipped.
Tyres are not to be put in skips – the skip companies will give advice on their disposal.
Wheelie bins must be removed from the highway as soon as possible after emptying – residents can be fined if they persist in not doing so.
Portable CCTV cameras – Sheffield City Council have a few available they can fix on lampposts to target fly-tipping sites.
Nuisance bonfires on allotments to the rear of gardens; talk to the allotment association chair about getting all the allotment owners to have one big fire rather that lots of little ones, or composting the waste.
Should residents wish to contact Andrew at the council, his telephone number is 0114 293 0347.
Garden Waste scheme (green bags)
This scheme is being phased out and shortly no more green bags will be available. After 8 November residents will need to phone up for the next date of full bag collection in this area, but from February 2011 a waxed/hessian bag scheme may be in place; these will be reuseable.
Anyone needing more green bags this autumn and winter – or indeed with far too many unused ones! – to contact the Clarion so these bags can be put to good use and not wasted.

Pat Wilkins loads waste into Hallam Community Skip
Tuesday morning’s wet conditions couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of local residents taking the opportunity to dispose of their unwanted rubbish by filling the community skip in the lay-by adjacent to Hallam school’s playing fields
The bubbly smiling faces of Pat Wilkins and her husband greeted the dumpers, and were on hand from 6:45am until the skip was taken away at around 1:00pm.
We’ll keep you informed of the date and location of any more upcoming community skips.
